Peter's POV-
Mr. Stark carried me quickly through the many twisting hallways of the Hydra Tower, and when we got to where the rest of the team had gathered, Steve pointed over to me and Mr. Stark as we made out way over. Bucky and Steve both made a move to take me from Mr. Stark, but he refused. I'm sure I was easy to carry in the suit, I have the same weight as a tiny middle schooler right now. I'm nothing more than skin and bones.
None of them commented on my physical state or the haunted look in my eyes, but I could knew what they were thinking. I saw the way their stares lingered. It was fine. I couldn't find it in me to care. I was safe!
"Hey guys." My voice was rough from hours screaming and a lack of use over these past two months. As it turns out, Hydra agents don't want to make conversation with their torture subjects. Oh well, you live and you learn.
They smile and wave back at me, all of them making some sort of warm greeting back towards me. I ignore the carnage dawning the field around me as I'm walked back towards the Jet. The steady thumping of Tony's steps and the quiet humming of the suit lulls me to sleep, and it's the best I'd slept in a long time.
Soft and warm; the first things I felt when my conciseness began to return. I tried to remember what happened before I fell asleep, but I was blanking. My mind began to register sounds in the room; I heard soft snoring and steady beeping. I tried to open my eyes, but bright light flooded in. I couldn't help the soft groan that escaped my lips. The snoring came to a sudden stop.
"Hey Peter. You waking up bud?" Oh. It was Mr. Stark. "Friday, dim the lights." Best human being ever! I was finally able to completely open my eyes to find I was in the Medical Ward at Avengers Tower. I tried to sit up, but Mr. Stark put his hand on my shoulder and softly shook his head 'no'.
"I think it's better if you stay down for a little bit. You've been asleep for quite some time."
"How long?" My voice was still raspy from sleep. I needed water, desperately.
"Almost 36 hours now." He checked his watch and nodded. It makes sense. Exhaustion had been my constant companion for months at that point. Thirty-six hours didn't seem like enough, but it'll do for now.
"Help me sit up, please?" He came closer to my side and guided me upright, it shouldn't have been as difficult as it was, but oh well, what are you gonna do? That's an issue for another day. When I was finally sitting up, there was a crash at the door. I felt myself jump and tense. I didn't feel a threat, but my nerves were shot to hell. Standing in the doorway was the Avengers, who all looked oblivious to the effect that crash had on me. Except Bucky, I could tell by the glaring look he shot at the others gathered around him. He's the only one who could have any idea what's happening in my head. What I've been through, though I recognize that he's had it so much worse than me.
It took a few seconds of people just staring at me before they did anything. Then, like a terrible chorus, they all opened their mouths and began to speak. All at the same time. With my advanced hearing, it sounded like screaming and yelling, sending me right back into that tiny cell with a metal chair. I felt myself cower into the bed and close my eyes. Bucky and Mr. Stark controlled the small crowd of superhumans. When they were quiet, I peaked one eyeback open, and looked around the room, trying to regain my sense. Everyone was much more calm and relaxed. They seemed guilty for scaring me.
"Hey guys." My voice sounded weak, and I hated it. I waved awkwardly and smiled weakly.
"Hey Peter." The voice belonged to Natasha. She pushed her way to the front and to my bedside. "How are you feeling bud?" I was expecting the question, but how do you explain to these people, who worked so hard to save you, that you just feel broken?
