I walked quickly, really wanting to get out of this cold that was starting to seep through my coat and scarf. I kept my head down, trying to block it from the wind as it blew harder around me, my hair whipping my face. There was almost no one on the streets, only a few people rushing by me trying to get to their destinations, and almost no cars. No one was risking driving in fear of ice on the roads. The weather had been getting worse and worse throughout the week. I however, decided to brave the cold to get to one of my favorite places in this town: the coffee shop. Hopefully Lance was there. I smiled at the thought of the barista who would always get me to laugh or blush.
I see the shop come into view as I turned the corner. I start to jog slightly, my backpack thumping my back lightly and finally I hear the familiar jingle of the door as I step into the warm café.
"Well, well, well, look who showed up," I heard as soon as I walked inside.
"Hi everyone," I greet at the employees who were all standing behind the counter. The store was empty, and it looked like it had been like that for a while. "You guys look very busy."
"Yes, we are, and you are interrupting our very hard work that we are doing here," Lance says sweeping his arm dramatically showing me all the hard "work" they were doing.
"So (y/n), do pray tell, why you have decided to leave the warmth and comfort of your house to come here, and ruin our doing nothingness," Pidge asks you, leaning over the counter.
"Yeah we were having a pretty good thing going on here," Keith points out.
"I just really like the coffee here I guess," I tease back. "Plus, Shiro has to pay you for something."
"Mm I guess you're right," Pidge says.
"So, will it be your usual?" Lance asks, pulling a mug from the shelf to make my drink.
"Yes please, that would be great."
"Alright, just go sit down I'll bring it out in a sec."
"Do you want me to leave the money on the counter?"
"Nah, just go sit down, don't worry about it."
"Lance, I have to pay."
"I said don't worry about it, go sit and get warm."
"Lance!"
"(y/n)," Lance's playful tone was evident as he turned around and looked at me. "Go sit, get comfy, and don't worry about it." He gave me a wink and started steaming the milk. I stayed standing there with my arms crossed, too stubborn to not pay.
"(y/n) just take the free coffee," Pidge sighs and I just huff out a breath in annoyance and turn to sit down, but not before I dropped a tip in the jar, causing Keith to roll his eyes at me.
I get myself settled on the couch, tucking my legs underneath me in an attempt to get comfortable and warm. I grab my book and open it to where I left off and started to read. Not a moment passes before I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Here you go, princess." Lance was standing next to me, holding a mug for me to grab, but the use of "princess" made my heart stop. I looked at him, but couldn't meet his eyes, so I just stared at the cup in his hands, trying to get my breathing back to normal
"I um- uh thanks," I grabbed my coffee, and a smile appeared on my face. "You put whipped cream on it! And is that cinnamon? Thank you so much! You're the best!"
"It was nothing," Lance said rubbing the back of his neck looking at his shoes, and I could've sworn he had started to blush.
"Well, it's something to me," I say. I finally am able to meet his eyes and give him a smile, which thankfully he returns.
