It had been two weeks since Riley had been to school. Seeing how depressed she was, her dad had let her take a break from school. But know it had been two weeks and her dad insisted that she went back. So today was the day that she had to face life. She had to face Maya, and she had to face Lucas. Farkle had walked Riley to school that morning, hoping to build up her spirit so that she would be her normal smiling self again. Unfortunately, It didn't work. They arrived at school and there was no sign of Lucas or Maya anywhere. Smackle arrived shortly after them.
"Hello dearest!" Smackle said, giving Farkle a peck on the cheek.
"Good morning My Sweet!" Farkle replied. Riley couldn't help but think that everyone had someone who loved them except for her. Just then, Lucas and Maya walked in. They we're laughing and holding hands. They stopped the moment they saw Riley.
"Hi guys." Riley said, trying to act fine.
"Umm hi Riley!' Maya said. "We haven't seen you since..." she stopped short.
"The cabin, I know." Riley said, emotionless. She knew she sounded cold but honestly she didn't care.
"Umm... ya. We missed you! We were worried." Maya said quickly.
"Yes well apparently life goes on." Riley stated, gesturing towards their hands which they forgot to let go of. They quickly dropped the others hand.
"Riley, maybe we should go talk over there." Farkle tried to pull her away.
"No! Farkle I can handle myself! I don't need you to always be there to fight my battles for me! You guys protected me from the outside world for most of my life and now I've experienced heartbreak and you act like nothing happened!" Riley yelled. She picked up her backpack and stormed to the classroom.
