Christmas and New Year's had come and gone, leaving behind more positive feelings about the next year for Cloud and his friends. Cloud was doing well, settling into his new normal finally, even working at the bakery his parents owned part-time to give himself something to do outside of school once the holidays passed. So while his parents did the baking and cake decorating, Pebbles took orders and Cloud did basic clean-up and inventory when necessary- checking on the stocks of the cake mix ingredients, frostings, sprinkles, and everything in between. It was a good job, being able to serve the people that lived in his hometown.

One day, when Cloud was working in the shop, serving a dozen cupcakes to a customer, he saw out of the corner of his eye, what looked to be a ferret person, in a table on the other side of the store starting to get twitchy. He didn't understand what was going on, and so when he finished up the woman's order, he quickly gave it to her, put the money in the register, and walked over to the guy getting all twitchy. A part of him was wondering if he should call an ambulance, or someone in his family, or even Timtam. But slowly, just in case, he approached the guy.

"Sir, are you alright?" He asked, reaching a paw out to shake him if he had to.

The man grabbed Cloud's paw, and he could see his eyes now as the twitchy guy looked up angrily at the calico. He was frothing at the mouth, and his eyes were dangerously dilated as if somehow, his hunting instincts had returned to him. He couldn't understand what was happening, so Cloud frantically kicked and yelled at the guy.

"Hey! Hey, let go of me, right now!" He shrieked. The man had started to stand up, Cloud's paw firmly gripped in the ferret's hand. He started to lift his arm and looked like he was ready to throw Cloud from where he stood.

BAM! A sound rang through the shop as something hard hit the window of the bakery.

With the ferret distracted by the sound, Cloud reached up and bit the man's hand, who then let him go. With a rough scrambling, the calico flew back behind the counter and into the back of the shop.

"GUYS!" he yelled, catching his parents' attention. "Something- something's wrong. Come on."

With just that, the three Colvis ran out of the building and into what could be described as unadulterated, aggressive chaos. People were beginning to swarm outside of their homes and started to claw, bite, kick, and punch just about anything they could get their paws on. People were fighting each other in groups, breaking windows, throwing things, and the Colvis had no idea what this was.

And for a moment, neither did Cloud. But then, something rang in his head. A low tone, something within his range of hearing but lower than he'd ever heard normally before. The calico was frozen in place as his brain rattled harshly in his skull, and fog came over him.

And all he knew was anger.

The youngest of Merlot's sons threw his paws onto his head and gripped it tight, gritting his teeth as the ringing grew louder and louder. And in a split second, he had released himself and turned on his parents, flapping his wings hard and launching himself at Merlot.

The black and white cat, in a shock, held her paws up to grab her son's shoulders, who was trying his damnedest to bite her. Heathcliff used all four of his arms to hold her up as she pushed against the force of her son.

And then, he froze again. Cloud landed himself on the ground, his glassy eyes staring at his parents. For a while, he did nothing.

In his head though, something seemed to shift. The fog in his brain that had shut down everything but anger and fury had started to clear up. Whatever magic was at play here, it seemed to work on Cloud for a moment until something forced itself to flare up in his body, causing his senses to regulate differently than his normal cat senses.
