I rubbed the damp rag over the table and whistled a tune. I heard the sounds of my mother's footsteps approach me. She smile and wrapped her arm around my shoulder.
'Hi darlin'.'
'Hey mum.'
'How are you doing?'
'I'm doing alright.'
She noticed my wide grin and gave me a strange look.
'What's up with you?'

'Is this about that picnic you had with that boy? What's his name again? Michael?'
'No, I'm just happy 'cause the sun's shining and the uh, air's fresh...'
'Don't bullshit me baby.'
I watched her face hardened and I felt my heart sink.
'Honey, don't do this to yourself not again.'
'What? What are you talking about?'
'You know what I mean.'
'Mum, stop it. He's different, he loves me.'
'That's what you said about Brandon honey, he was infatuated with you.'
She walked away after giving me a warning glare.
