I shrugged it off and pretended like I couldn't see the looks on their faces.

'You know, I'd love to stay and chat but I've got work to do.'

'What about your parents?' Malorie asked.

'My mum actually; she's got stuff to do; don't worry about it I'll be fine.'

'Yeah but you seem alone,' Michael said.

I wanted to laugh. He had no idea what it meant to be alone and it sickened me. I wasn't alone; I had Rhiannon but trust me when I was alone I knew; everyone in the whole damn world knew.

'I'm not alone; trust me.'

(Michael's p.o.v)

I watched the way her hips swished from side to side as she walked. She was so beautiful and it was almost hard to fathom how beautiful she was. She held her baby sister up and kissed her fat cheeks the way a mother would. She was so grown up and yet she was so young.

'I feel so awful,' Malorie mumbled.

'Yeah but there's no point, we can't do anything to help her and she won't want us to anyway.'

'How do you know that?'

'She's spent her whole life being independent and smart; she's too proud to accept anything from us.'

We spent the rest of the day in the hills eating from our picnic while making jokes and talking about the beautiful world around us.

'I love being here; the feeling is amazing,' Malorie sighed.

I didn't say anything. I watched Riley sing and dance to forget about her problems because it made me forget about mine. Our family is not perfect; our dad is ALWAYS working. He could wake up sometimes at three a.m. and start working on his book; he hardly ever is with the family because he's always writing; sometimes I even forget what his voice sounds like. I sipped a can of Pepsi and lay on my back. It was a very hot day- it was summer after all and august would be here soon. I wasn't looking forward to starting school but my mum keeps talking about how great the university here is so I guess it won't be a complete nightmare.

That's one reason why I'm looking forward to moving out soon. I'm going to try this new college for a year and my parents have said that if it doesn't work out I can get an apartment, move back to New York and start college, but I'm trying my hardest to make it work; for Riley's sake.
