Riley's p.o.v
I waved at Michael for like the tenth time and bit my lip to hide my insane smile. The sun was setting and the orange glow filling up the sky was welcoming. I watched him disappear up the path to his house and turn back several times to catch a last glimpse at me; I did too.
I pushed open the door and picked up Rhiannon who was sitting cheerfully in her booster seat.
'Hey sweet thang! How you doin'?'
She laughed and stretched her little fingers out in the air. I could smell the aroma of roast beef and spotted a few bottles of beer lying around. I felt a bit hurt because we only ever made roast beef during holidays and when family members came to visit; which wasn't very often. I kissed her cheek and she wrapped her arms around my neck while I held her legs over my waist.
'Mum?' I called.
There was a strange silence in the room so I decided to put Rhiannon to sleep in my room.
'Riley, is that you?' my grandmother yelled.
'Yup! I'm home.'
I walked into her room and kissed her forehead while she lay down. She looked kinda week and really tired but I said nothing because she hated it when we worried.
'How was your picnic?'
'Mum told you?'
She nodded and started to smile. 'The boy next door huh? He's cute.'
I bit my lip but grinned foolishly. 'Yeah but-'
'But what?'
I thought about it and decided not to tell her that he was way older than me; just in case I ended up doing something stupid.
'I don't wanna uh, get in that shit again.'
She nodded. 'I understand.'
I left the room after she closed her eyes and I got the keys for the tractor. The sky seemed slightly darker than before but I always fancied a drive in the tractor at night. I glanced at Michael's house before running towards the large red vehicle; I couldn't help how much I adored that boy.
Michael's p.o.v
'Hey mum,' I said as I walked into the house. I hadn't stopped smiling since I walked away from Riley. I couldn't stop thinking about the way her hair smelled and the way she bit her lip anxiously and the way she smiled and the dimples in her cheeks... jeez I'm daydreaming again.
'Hi son,' she replied calmly.
'What's up?'
'Why are you smiling so much?' she raised up her head finally and adjusted the glasses on the bridge of her nose. I noticed that she was wearing a light blue denim blouse and white knee-length shorts; she had probably gone out earlier.
'Nothing, I just had a really good day.'
'With the farm girl?'
'Yes mum, with the farm girl.'
'How did it go?'
'I will tell you that she didn't try to mug me.'
'That's interesting,' she chuckled.
'Did you go out?'
'Yeah, just into town and oh we got your sister into the high school down there; it's actually not too far from our house.'
I nodded. That's good; well I'll see you later.'
I walked up stairs and briefly glanced through the mirror. Riley was driving through the farm on her tractor- her lips were moving so I could tell that she was singing. I started to smile again as I thought of her amazing voice.
'You like her don't you?'
I looked up and saw Malorie standing in front of me with a childish grin on her face.
'No.'
'Sure,' she smiled.
