“Is he still in there? Seriously?”
“I’m pretty sure. Maybe he drowned or something.”
“In the toilet?”
“It’s possible!”
“Crap, or get off the pot!”
Instead of like most people getting woken up by the rays of the sun, Niall woke up to these shouts. His eyes peeled open to see that he lay trapped in a mess of pillows on the sofa for the second time that week. He managed to untwine himself and stumbled over to the bathroom, still a bit stuck in a drowsy state of mind.
“What are you two shouting about?” Niall asked to Liam and Louis standing outside of the bathroom door as well.
“We think Harry has drowned using the loo.” Louis answered. Niall, still not fully woken up yet, was completely and utterly confounded by what Louis said.
“Wait, what? Harry drowned?” Niall croaked, attempting to hold in a yawn along the way.
“No, Lou’s just kidding.” Liam said, “At least I hope he is…” Niall glared at the two of them with a blurred vision.
“What? Oh, never mind. Just stop yelling like that. I’m going back to bed. It’s too early in the morning for all this.”
“Niall, it’s past noon.” Liam told him.
“Yeah, two o’clock to be exact.” Louis chimed in.
“What?” Niall exclaimed for the third time in just a few minutes, “Really?” He glanced over to the clock, squinting to see that it’s ticking arms indicted that it was well into the afternoon.
Before Niall had the chance to express more of his confusion, the bathroom door swung open, revealing a very living Harry.
“Harry, you’re alive!” Louis burst out, throwing his arms around Harry. Harry held an annoyed expression, muttering curses along the lines of “Can’t a man ever use the loo in peace?”
Niall headed off to the kitchen to find something to solve the hunger gnawing at his stomach. Rummaging through the cabinets high and low, he decided on a simple bowl of Cheerios hiding behind Tupperware. He leaned against the counter, the munching loud in his ears. It wasn’t the most delicious brunch ever, as the cereal was well past its expiration date and stale, but it suited him for now.
His flat was unreasonably quiet unlike it was earlier. He assumed the boys must have gone out or something and he didn’t hear the door shut behind when he was focused on finding some sort of meal. He understood Liam’s wariness now that he was unsure of where the rest of them had wandered off to.
Set to go off and to still his beating mind, he dumped his bowl in the sink to wash off later, but tiny white colored specs caught his eyes. He gazed out the window about the sink, watching the snowflakes drift lazily down from the clouds.
‘It’s snowing.’ Niall thought to himself. He couldn’t help but crack a smile like everyone does when they catch a glimpse of the first snowfall of the year. The snowflakes captivated him and numbed him of the rest of his surroundings as he slipped off into his own little world.
