Lorelei had been pulled away from her coffee for the third time that day. Unimpressed, she discarded the beverage – this time not even daring an attempt to down it – and ran across the hospital to the pit. They had had a critical case earlier in the evening, but Rory had been sent away by the Chief. Despite her constant reassurance that she was able to effectively do her job, he had decided that she was not emotionally capable of thinking with a clear mind. The only training trauma surgeon had been sent to the side-lines, only being permitted to do triage and labs.
Of course, this would have been a great deal more worrying had their Emergency Room been filling the way that it normally would on a snow-filled evening. There didn't have to be a blizzard for the Seattle hospitals to be filled with traumas, only the appearance of black ice. Yet, Seattle Grace was suffering from their low placement on the rankings of teaching hospitals and subsequent reduction of trauma status. So, despite the Limo that had pulled into their emergency entrance almost half an hour ago, the ER had been desolate.
For Rory, this had been a slight comfort, knowing that despite being forced to the side lines she wasn't missing out on major surgeries. As dark and twisted as it made her feel, it was the first thought to go through her mind as she walked in the pit only to be greeted by the same three women as before.
Pulling on a pair of gloves and a yellow cover, Dr Jareau began to make her way towards the emergency entrance only turning back to ask, "Dr Sloan, do you know about the driver?"
Mark shook his head, "They did everything they could."
"Right," she declared, trying to remain neutral. No matter how sure she was that she could have helped, there was a chance that the driver would have passed any way. However, at least if she had been in the room, she would have been able to tell the family – with all certainty – that all had been done to save him.
He seemed to look towards her overly sympathetic. It was the same look each of her colleagues had taken to wearing when they saw her, they were all concerned for her despite none of them knowing the full story. If they knew the full story, those looks would merge into those of judgement. It had been her failure that had led to her sister's addictions, she alone could be blamed for the accident.
Shaking off the look, Rory continued her journey out of the emergency doors, "What do we have coming in?"
"Three gentlemen in a limousine collided with another vehicle on Broad Street." Bailey began, ignoring the disapproving look she was receiving from Dr Webber. "Dispatch says they are all seriously injured."
"Vehicle on vehicle?" Rory queried, Cristina nodding in response. "And I gather we stole these patients from Mercy West?"
"I don't care for what you are insinuating," Bailey declared, failing to hide the smirk on her face as she turned to her friend.
