Part twenty three

Kieran

I glanced at Asa's sleeping form beside me, and I felt a foreign feeling well up in my chest.
I had an inkling of what it was that I was feeling, but I didn't want to put a name to it. Not yet.
Not when I still wasn't certain about her feelings for me.

She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. The sweetest thing I had ever tasted.
I couldn't get enough of her. And I don't think I ever would.
It was almost like she had me under a spell.
A spell I couldn't shake off. And didn't want to shake off.

I could still picture her being walked down the aisle by my father.
She looked so fucking ethereal.
And it was a sight that I wanted to be ingrained in my mind for all eternity.
It was a little sad that my father had to be the one to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day.
But apart from her siblings, she had no living relative that she knew of...Or so she says.

I knew she lied, but I couldn't begin to fathom why.
She had secrets. Secrets I wanted to unravel.

The ceremony had been wonderful, although I was sure she would disagree.
I chuckled at the vision of her stoic expression throughout the ceremony. One would think she was being dragged to the guillotine, which to her might have been a more desirable destination than where I was waiting at the altar.
Not that I looked any happier...But it was still the best day of my life.

The only thing that threatened to ruin it was the presence of Shawn Baxter.
Of course, I knew about him.
I made it my mission to know every single detail about her life.
I had information on everyone she had ever dated, where she grew up, her family, and her friends.

I knew Baxter was still in love with her, it was written all over his face during the wedding ceremony. The longing glances he aimed her way almost made me sick.
I think about him and any other man that has known her intimately and I see red.
It drove me crazy at the time to get a report of them together from the tail I had on her.
It took a lot of willpower to restrain myself from having Baxter dealt with.
But he didn't bother me anymore.

She was mine now after all. I had her and he didn't.

The next morning I woke up to find Kieran gone, so after getting ready for the day I went to the breakfast nook downstairs where I found him seated with a cup of coffee.
I had woken up to find him gone, and for some reason, I felt shy in front of him because of what happened last night.

"Good morning," I said hesitantly
I was ready for him to continue with his cold treatment even after last night.
But he surprised me with a smile that melted my heart.
He was so beautiful.
"Morning" he answered softly, "Did you sleep well?"

My mind immediately went back to last night, and I lowered my eyes shyly. Which made him chuckle knowingly.

"No food?"I asked changing the direction of the conversation to something safer.
I looked at the empty dining table in confusion.
I was feeling ravenous this morning, I guess I worked up an appetite...

"No there isn't" he replied standing up from his seat.
He towered over me, and I was not by any means short.
"I thought we could have breakfast together this morning" he continued, "we haven't been out since we arrived and they have really good restaurants here, I was told"

"Yeah of course" I replied hastily with a wide smile, "I would love that"

I felt so happy that he wanted us to have breakfast together, But I was a little perplexed.

Ok not just 'a Little', I was a lot perplexed.

As much as I was happy with his friendly attitude this morning, I was a little thrown off guard by it.

Even though I know it was a good thing that he was finally starting to act like a normal human being, I was still feeling a little wary.

What was he playing at?
It couldn't be just because of last night. There was something more to it.

But I didn't want to think too much of it at this moment, I was going to enjoy this for however long it lasts.
I just hope he doesn't revert to his default mode, which was being an asshole.
