The ride back home was, again, full of silence. This time Nagisa didn't initiate a conversation, much to Karma's disappointment, but he himself didn't want to start it. So the full ride was only filled with the radio's babbles about the news and so on. Minutes later, they finally reached their house and got off the car to proceed inside.
Karma merely followed Nagisa inside and slumped down on the soft sofa, reaching out for the remote control to turn on the television. He switched through the channels with a bored expression before finally deciding to watch a show about a shrunken detective and a phantom thief. He was too immersed on the show that he didn't even notice Nagisa entering the kitchen, so he was surprised to see a plate of chocolate cookies and a glass of strawberry milk placed on the table in front of him. He snapped his head up and was greeted with Nagisa's gentle expression.
"Don't stay up too late. I'll prepare dinner for later so don't eat too much sweets." Nagisa reminded and softly rubbed his head. Karma froze on his spot even after Nagisa left and went upstairs, and only woke up from his stupor minutes later.
He glanced at the cookies in front of him and the strawberry milk he already grew to love before lightly touching his head. Nagisa's hand on his head felt nice and warm, and the warmth he felt spread through his neck and cheeks. He raised his bare feet to the sofa, hugged his knees to hide his blushing face and nibbled on a piece of cookie and tried his best to concentrate on the thief laughing on the screen rather than his accelerating heartbeat.
"Stupid Master. " Karma quietly mumbled as he bit the cookie harder than necessary. "Not even noticing bugs buzzing around and flirting to him. " He remembered what happened earlier and became angrier, finishing the innocent cookie off in one harsh bite.
"Well whatever. Since I'm already here, I can just protect him from pests trying to steal him away. " That's right. Since he is Nagisa's demon, that means the agent is also his. No one else can get him away from the demon, and Karma is on the right to fight for what is his. Isn't that so?
Yes.

The atmosphere during dinner was better than earlier. Though Nagisa was skeptical as for what had happened to the redhead, he didn't ask after seeing him silent about it. Since Karma looked like he already was back to normal (as normal as he could be) and was even more cheerful than ever, Nagisa decided to let it be and just thought of it as Karma having his period (Oi! )."Oh, by the way Nagisa, " Karma stopped gobbling the chicken leg and raised his head to meet the other before continuing, " you said that there was an assignment for us. What was it about? "
Nagisa hummed as he remembered the documents that was given to him. "Ah, it's about the investigation of illegal formations of organizations made by some demons and suspected fallen angels. I'll show and explain the details to you later after dinner if you want. "
Illegal organizations?
Karma knew that not everyone is a good person. He would be a dimwit if he ever believe such a thing. Illegal organizations themselves weren't uncommon, but if they were being directed by demons and fallen angels then it really should be taken with more precautions.
"Fallen angels... " Nagisa seemed to hear his mumble and paused for a second.
"Yeah, fallen angels. Have you heard of them? "
The redhead picked on his rice as he nodded. "I did. Fallen angels are quite rare according to some people. To be honest I haven't seen one. I heard that the process of turning into a fallen angel is so painful that most of them committed suicide, that must be why there are so few of them around. "
Nagisa didn't say anything and just continued eating. He carefully removed the bones of the chicken before placing the meat on Karma's plate. Ecstatic, Karma grinned and savoured his meal without effort.
"How about you, Nagisa? What do you think about fallen angels? "
Nagisa blinked at Karma. "I think... They are pitiful. "
Pitiful, sad, hopeless. Fallen angels are angels that has committed "sins" from the list of "rules" that cannot be forgiven. After doing an "unforgivable sin", the wings of the angel would slowly turn into scorched black, accompanied with the intense pain of having your wings being burned. This torturous process could last for an hour or even a whole day, and most of the angels couldn't take the pain and so they directly kill themselves to escape.
Whether it was accidental or not, an act done cannot be erased.
"I think so, too. " Karma swallowed the last of his food then asked Nagisa with a smile. "Hey, Nagisa. When do we need to start doing the assignment? "
"Hmm. We can start whenever, but it's more convenient to do it next week. We have to prepare for some time. " The dishes on the table were cleaned by the two of them, and so they went to their rooms to wash up and prepare for bed.
Though it seemed like only Nagisa thought so.
As soon as he stepped out of the shower, the bluehead heard a knock on his door followed by Karma asking permission to enter. When he opened the door, the demon immediately hopped inside and jumped on the bed, which made the other's eyebrow twitch.
"What is it, Karma? "
"Well, " Karma propped himself up and grinned at his master. "I just thought, how about we do some bonding? "
"Huh? "
"We can start by talking about the mission and your company! " The demon pulled out the documents given to him from who-knows-where-again and showed it to Nagisa. "Can you tell me some rules or something about your organization? I don't know much about this kind of thing. "
Nagisa's eyebrow raised in surprise and sarcastically said, "Oh? I thought you're not the type to follow rules. "
"Nagisa, is that how you see me? A lawless demon who do mischief everywhere?? " Karma pouted and his pointy tail started drooping.
The bluehead was ruthless and immediately answered. "Yes."
"How mean!! Let me say, I'm a very good demon citizen and I follow laws from word to word! " Karma's shrunken wings flapped behind his back showing his frustration, making Nagisa chuckle at the childish display.
"I doubt that. You don't seem like someone who can get by through doing orders. " He said and finished drying his hair. The demon's orbs glowed for a second before dimming back to its golden mercury color.
"Then you thought wrong of me. I'm such a good demon you know~" Lies. Karma never liked the idea of being a puppet of someone else's words. But in order to know more about Nagisa, he has to start with small things related to the bluehead's life and occupation.
He won't promise to do the rules and such, but he'll try his best to listen to them at least.
Besides, if it's Nagisa that was ordering him, then it wouldn't be too bad to follow his words at all.
