"Did you decide how you wanted to spend your birthday?" my mom asked the moment she entered the kitchen. I was sitting at the island making beaded bracelets with my sister, Taylor. "I have not. No," I answered.
"Your birthday is in two days," Taylor pointed out. "What are you waiting for? If I were turning nineteen, I would be throwing the biggest most turnt party ever and no one would be able to enter unless they brought me a gift. Money is of course acceptable as well," Taylor smirked. I made a face at her and my mom laughed.
"Are you going to do something with that handsome british boy from the grocery store?" my mom asked pulling out a frying pan and getting the ingredients to start dinner. I looked up from the selection of colored beads. "Zayn? No mom, don't be ridiculous."
"Ridiculous? Isn't that your friend?" she questioned.
"Why would he want to spend my nineteenth birthday with me when I'm sure he has so many other things to do?" I stuck a red bead onto my bracelet. "Plus," I said reaching for a black bead. "I don't know if Ally's going to make it so I don't want to do something if she's not involved. Ot'd only be Camila and I, ooo how fun," I sarcastically said.
"The offer still stands for me to have something here," my mom said.
"Mom, no offense but why would Lauren want you to host her party?" Taylor said. I tried to stifle the laughter and I made a weird snorting sound.
"I've thrown you guys awesome parties before," my mom defensively said.
"We were like nine years old," I said.
"Actually the last time I threw you guys a party was when you were both ten then you all became too good for me."
"Mom, you know we love you, but Taylor's right. I'm turning nineteen and I want to do something interesting. Not saying whatever you're planning isn't interesting.. I just want to try and figure something out."
My mom squinted her eyes at me and my younger sister before picking up an orange bead and throwing it at me arm. "Fine. Do what you want, but don't act too grown, you're the one sitting here making beaded bracelets," she said before walking out of the kitchen.
"I still can't believe you don't have any plans for your nineteenth birthday," Taylor said focused on her bracelet. "And who's this british guy mom was talking about?"
"Don't worry about it," I said grabbing my things and leaving the kitchen to head over to Camila's.
Camila was already on her porch while her lttle sister, Sofi drew on the sidewalk wit chalk. "Whaddup birthday girl," she greeted me.
"We've got two whole days for that," I said as I sat down beside her.
"I know, I'm just practicing. So did you figure out what you're doing for your birthday?" she asked.
"If someone else asks me that then I am going to lose my mind. There's too much pressure. What ever happened to just eating cake and having a sleepover?" I questioned.
"That's something I would do for my birthday," Camila laughed. "You've been crashing beach parties for your birthdays for as long as I can remember."
"I don't want to drink for my birthday this year. I just want it to be laid back. Me, you and Ally. I miss that."
"Well if she gets her ass back from Texas then we could gladly do that."
"Have you talked to her?" I asked.
"I haven't for a couple of days. Last I heard she was still trying to figure out a way to come out, but there's no way of knowing for certain since she hasn't answered my calls."
"I know, same here. I guess I'll just let my mom throw me something."
"As long as you don't let her host your twenty-first, then I think all will be well," Camila said. I laughed and nodded.
It was later that night when I was showered and laying in bed reading a book that I got a text from Zayn.
have you made plans for your birthday yet.
I stared at the text for a while and then texted him back.
no, no just yet. why?
Because if you haven't then that means that your mums plans to have something for you still stands.
like you'd actually come to a mom thrown event
contrary to popular belief mums know how to have the best parties out there
lol I'll let you know
please do. see you around.. stalker.
I rolled my eyes with a smile on my face and placed my phone on my bedside table. I tried to read my boom again but I couldn't focus and I found myself reading the same paragraph over and over.
"Mom?" I called out. There was no response but moments later, my door flung open and in walked my mom with a laundry basket in her arms. "What? I'm trying to do laundry and you kids keep calling me."
"I think that I'll take you up on your offer," I said.
"My offer?" she furrowed her eyebrows and I nodded. "Wait, my offer to throw you a little something something for your birthday?"
"Yeah," I said. "I can't figure anything out. I mean it's if you're still up for it. Camila and I can go watch a movie and have a sleepover or something.." I suggested.
"No, of course I'm up for it." she clapped her hands together. "I'm going to have your brother clean the pool and have your dad pull out the grill," she got to thinking. "I can't believe you're going to be nineteen!"
My mom left my room and I grabbed my phone and had my thumbs hovering above the keyboard before I wrote back to Zayn.
looks like the mom birthday takeover is happening..
