chapter five: feelings come

song: girlfriend by alicia keys

Kaylee's POV

I open Phillipa's door slowly and quietly with my keys. I step in and close it slowly, trying not to make a loud noise when I shut the door. I tip toe to my guest bedroom until I hear a voice.

"We need to talk," she says, sounding like she hadn't slept all night. I roll my eyes and then turn around to face her. "Yes?" I ask.

"Okay, I get that Anthony is awesome and you probably had so much fun. But you really need to try to update me with where you are. I knew you were with Anthony, but what if something happened to you? I was just worried like a normal older sister would be," she says calmly. "I know. I'm sorry. I should've tried to find a charger or a way to contact you," I say. "Thank you," she sighs, as I finally tell her what she wants to hear. I start walking to my room. "And Kaylee?" she says stopping me. I turn around and look at her. "I know you think Anthony's cute already and stuff. But just try to be careful, okay? He's my friend and all, and I love him, but I know that he's not the relationship kind of guy," she says, walking towards me. "Then, we're a perfect match," I say, jokingly.

"Okay, okay. Go get ready or get some sleep at least. Whatever you need to do," she says, pulling me in for a hug. I hug her back and sigh. I walk back into my room and lay down on the bed. I don't think Anthony "not being the relationship kind of guy" would bother me. I mean- would it?I start to drift off to sleep, falling asleep.

Phillipa's POV

As soon as she gets into her room, my phone starts vibrating. I look at the contact name and it's Daveed.

"Hey, so did Kaylee say anything?" He asked. "No, they didn't do anything together. She just slept at his place because they got home late. I'm pretty sure she's telling the truth about that," I whisper to him, going into my room and locking the door. "Why are you whispering?" He asks. "She just got home."

"Got it. Have you talked to Jasmine?" He asks. "Yes about Anthony, no about Anthony going out with Kaylee. She doesn't know about that yet," I say into the phone. "I'm sure it wasn't a date, Pip. They probably just got stuck talking at that place," he says. "So what did Jas say?" He asks.

"I mean, she was pretty disappointed. She liked him a lot. I think more than he liked her for sure. I'm sure everything will be fine in rehearsals soon. It's just gonna be awkward since Jasmine's one of my best friends, and she's in a love triangle with my sister. It's weird," I say, sighing. "Yea. I thought Anthony liked her, too, for a little. He told me it's chill with them and that they couldn't keep a flow to the conversation," Dav says.

"Maybe. Jasmine said they'd been hooking up a lot, then he had just said it's not gonna work out anymore. That's when she got pretty upset," I explain, trying to figure out what actually happened between those two. "Do you think Kaylee knows about Jas?" He asks. "I don't know. I doubt it."

"Okay, I gotta go, but I just wanted to check in with you. I'll see you tomorrow in rehearsals," he says. "See you later, Dav," I say and hang up the phone.

Maybe they'll be a good fit? I know Anthony's not a huge commitment guy. But I also want my sister to find someone who makes her happy. Someone who will make her want to commit to them.

Anthony's POV

"Yo, bro what happened to you last night?" Oak asks me over the phone. "My man," I puff. "It was crazy," I say, running my fingers through my hair. "You guys just disappeared. Did you leave with Kaylee?" he asks. "Yea man, we were just chillin' man. Then we just kept going from one spot to another and-"

"What time did you guys get in?" he asks. "Yo, like five or six?" I guess, not remembering. "The sun was definitely coming up."

"Are you serious?"

"Yea, I suggested to leave One Two, cause I noticed she wasn't feelin' it there. I took her to a burger joint and we sat and ate at the park. After, we went to this bar and we were just talking shit to each other the whole time," I say, walking around my living room. "Then what?"

"We locked eyes so many times. I started feelin' something more with her, and I didn't really wanna go. So, I asked if she wanted to keep hanging, and she said, "Let's go one more hour." And I wasn't against it, so we kept hanging. And you know me. Usually I'm gone by the first hour or I already take the girl home just to fool around, but I just wanted to keep talking with her. Nonstop."

"Damn, I've never seen you like this, Ant," Oak says. "I've never felt like this before, brother. I can't remember a girl who has made me feel this way in my twenty four years on this damn earth," I say plopping on the couch. There's silence on the other side for a bit. "Oak?"

"Ant, I'mma be real with you. What happened with Jas?" He asks. My chest falls as he reminds me of what I did earlier this week.

"Look, like I told you at One Two. It just wasn't working out for me. And you know me. I'm not the commitment type," I say, putting my feet up on the coffee table.

"I thought Jasmine was good for you. I thought you guys were good for each other," he says. "It wasn't like that-- I mean it used to be, but it's not anymore. My month with her doesn't even compare to this one night I had with Kaylee. Jas and I were just fooling around. There was no substance. It wasn't serious. With Kaylee, we could've talked for days. Even weeks," I say, smiling to myself, remembering the events that happened last night.

"Well what if Little Pip just wants to fool around like Jasmine?" He asks. I pause and think about it for a second. "Oak, I don't think it'll be like that. You should've seen us last night," I say, trying to stop myself from smiling because my cheeks hurt so damn much.

"You like Little Pip, huh?" He asks me. "I don't know dude. But whatever this feeling is, I don't want it to stop," I say, laughing. "Okay, okay. So what you're saying is that you have feelings for her?" Oak says
