A Summer Day Off

Synopsis: Because it's been so hot (at least where I live) lately, I decided to write a story about an epic water balloon fight between the team.

"What do heroes typically do on a day off?" you asked, joining the rest of the Avengers in the large living room.

It was your first day off ever since you had joined the team, and so far, Tony looked like he was about to start trouble just so the Avengers had something to do. Besides, it was summer, there was plenty of things you guys could do.

"We don't usually have a day off, and when we do, we usually just sleep the entire day. However," Natasha started, glaring at Sam from across the room, "someone left their oatmeal on the stove too long this morning and the fire alarm woke everyone up."

Everyone joined Natasha and glared at Sam.

"I've said 'sorry' a million times now!"

"Maybe," you suggested, "we could use this day to team build."

"I'm sorry, (Y/N), but I'm not participating in stupid icebreakers that end up making everyone feel a lot more awkward," Clint said.

You rolled your eyes. "That's not what I meant. It's going to be hot today, maybe we could fight with water balloons."

"What are water balloons?" Thor asked, sipping on his mug of beer rather than a morning cup of coffee.

"Isn't that a little kid game?" Tony asked.

"Please, Tony, we all know that we are fully capable of making a game of water balloons a lot more violent."

Natasha cocked her eyebrow. "(Y/N)'s not wrong. This could be fun."

"I'm still not quite sure," Bucky said nervously. "I tend to get a little rough in games like this."

"Bucky, it's nearly impossible to get hurt playing with water balloons," Steve countered. "Besides, we have nothing else to do."

You smiled. Unlike most of the heroes in this room, you had a normal childhood. A loving family, a nice house, and summer games. You loved your team to pieces, but sometimes they were a little too stoic or uptight. The only 'special' thing about you was that you served as a Major in the army for five years. However, you were a kid at heart, and you wanted to make this a day where they could let loose a little.

"Swimsuits on!" you exclaimed. "I'll explain the rules outside of the compound."

By the time you met the rest of the Avengers outside, Tony's robots must have managed to fill up thousands of balloons. Even though you were excited for the game, you couldn't help but find your teams swimsuit choices amusing.

Steve's trunks were red, white, and blue, while Tony's had pictures of himself on them. Bruce wore plain black trunks instead of Thor's neon colored ones. Clint wore the standard swimsuits SHIELD distributed. Peter's had a spiderweb design and Bucky's were camo. Sam had birds all over his. Natasha wore a modest, black, two-piece swimsuit, declaring that her scar on her stomach wasn't appropriate for a bikini. Wanda had a scarlet one-piece, and you wore a (Y/F/C) athletic swimsuit.

"Tony, how many water balloons do we have?" you asked, staring at the numerous buckets scattered as far as the eye can see.

Tony shrugged. "I bought like 200 packs of Bunch-o-Balloons. Also," he added, reaching into a box, "I bought each of us a water balloon gun that can launch the balloon up to 200 feet."
