Chapter One
Cloaked Firey Death
Not thinking about my safety I bolted for the forest. The gloomy trees hung low grabbing me, luckily I ripped my dress, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to run as fast as I was.
My long hair swayed from side to side. The forest was a scary place to be at night. Your scream stopped and the hair on my neck stood up on end. I only then realised how cold I was. Stopping to take in my surroundings I realised, I have no idea how to get back or how to find you.
Heart pounding in my throat I stopped. My once flowing black dress now hung loosely around my curves. I hated the silence, it made my heart beat louder. Maybe it wasn't beating louder maybe it was just the silence made it sound louder.
"Sammy." I whispered so nervous it came out wobbly.
"Don't worry, it's just the forest, you loved the forest you used to always go to the forest." I spoke calmly to myself, trying to feel braver. Slowly I inhaled and exhaled. I dropped my heels and wallet on the ground so I could have free hands. I grabbed my phone out of my leg wrap that held my phone. Flipping my black Nokia open with great anticipation all my hope goes when I saw zero bars of reception.
"Shit!" I yell out loud. Oh god, not a good idea. I quickly start walking to get out of the clearing, out of preying eyes.
"Ouch!" I quietly yelp. A fine stick has inserted itself into my skin. Blood starts to slowly drip out of my foot. I heard something in the forest behind me and a cold breath run down my neck sending a cold shrill rippling down my back and landing as butterflies in my stomach.
I suck in my breath, and slowly turn my head over my shoulder to see what was behind me. But my eyes didn't focus on anything. There was nothing out of the ordinary just a lot of scary looking trees. God I hated it when my mind played tricks on me.
I turn back around and a pain so sharp and deep ripples in my head and spreads down my spine and through my body. It's so sharp and painful! I drop to my knees and let out a moan of pain.
But the pain stops... Weird...
I get up and rip a bit of black material off my dress and rap it around my foot tightly. Mum was going to kill me when she saw the makeover I gave to the dress.
I placed my foot lightly back on the ground, causing an agonising pain up my leg. Stupid stick why did it have to be pointing upwards at the spot I was placing my foot. Maybe if I wasn't clumsy, maybe then I would've been looking where I was going instead of being scared of the trees in the forest. There wasn't anything scary in the forest; it was just my mind playing a stupid game.
A soft whimpering came from near by and I instantaneously remembered why I was out so far into the forest. I quickly broke into a sprint forgetting about the pain in my foot and trying to find my friend.
"Samantha!" I yelled. Hope flittering in my heart, as I ran for about ten seconds before I saw her limp body resting lifeless against the tree.
"Sammy, Sammy!" I whimpered. Hoping she could hear me. "Sammy... Can you hear me? Sammy?" My hand was wrapped around her, her hand was still warm, but lifeless. Hot agonizing tears ran freely down my face.
Suddenly life came back to her face and her eyes flicked open.
"Sammy! Oh my god! Sammy!" I yelled, wrapping her in a tight embrace. Her body felt warm against mine, which was surprising since a minute ago there was no life in her.
"Sammy, I thought you were gone, don't you ever do that to me again, you hear me?" I asked, but it was more of a statement then a question.
She finally perceived her surroundings and looked up into my eyes. Her beautiful blue eyes were wet with tears and pain shot through them.
"Katy, I didn't mean it, I'm sorry. You need to go, now!" She yelled quietly to my ear.
"Sammy, what's going on?" I was confused and on the eagre of crying again. "It's okay, you don't need apologize, I saw the way you looked at that guy, I understand."
"Kat, no, not that, I'm not sorry about that." She said, her eyes pleading for me to understand.
"Oh Sam, that hurts, I understand your not sorry." I say in a sarcastic voice trying to lighten the mood.
"You have to run! You have too. You can't stay, he wasn't human, he had fangs, real fangs. He was a vampire!" sam says.
"Ha, you obviously hit your head harder then I thought." I said trying to take my mind away from the fact that my friend and I were in pain.
"Kat... Run..." I let out an uneven worried chuckle. Quickly I glanced around the clearing. I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that no one or nothing was out there. God I was going mad, why would something be out there. The monsters I was scared of only came out when I was alone. They didn't come after friends, so I could rule them out.
"Now!" She yelled, as she let out a sheik as she pointed a slim manicured finger at a hooded figure standing at the other side of the clearing.
Sam's body went limp in my arms, glancing down at her I notice her eyes have rolled back and she is out of it again. I could still hear her ragged breathing. Quickly turning, the hooded figure is gone. But a white note has been pinned to the Oak tree with an arrow. An arrow? I didn't hear anyone shoot and arrow, and it definitely wasn't there before. Slowly placing Sam's unconscious body on the soft damp earth I stride up to the note with great confidence.
I rip the thin note off the small wooden arrow and notice my name printed on the front with beautiful cursive writing. I flip it around to find a note attached to the back.
Kat, I meet your friend Samantha today,
I hope you don't mind.
I hope to meet you soon too.
I gasped. My eyes widened, slowly I slid my foot backwards trying to get as far away from this tree as possible, my foot catches on something and I fall to the ground, my head hitting the earth.
"Arghh!" I let out a quick scream. I shove the note in my pocket and look around. My body calms when I realise that I only tripped on a stick.
"Kat, I'm so sorry, he didn't go to our school and I didn't know him so I said my name was Kat. He was looking for you!" She said gasping air. Her eyes pleaded with me.
"Sam, no, it's okay... It's not your fault." I calmly spoke the reassuring words in her ear, I held her tightly in my arms.
"Katrina...You're my bestfriend... I'll love you forever." She said quickly before her eyes turned lifeless and her bodies breathing slowed.
Without thinking I take my nokia out of my pocket and punch in the first number that come to my head.
The phone rings for about two rings when finally someone answers.
"Hello?" Damn it, the numbers I called belonged to Jeremy. I wasn't thinking straight and the back of my head was hearting like crazy. So right now I really don't care that it was Jeremy I called, no matter how much I hate him.
"Hello?" Jeremy says again in his impatient voice.
"Jer-Jermy." I stutter, the word burning the back of my throat. My head hurt and I was quickly going into darkness.
"Who's this? Kat? Is that you?" How did he know it was me, my voice sounded so little and scared nothing like my usual voice.
"I... I need your help." My eyes and head were stinging.
"Listen Katrina, I understand that you want me back, I do, I am a very attractive man, but..." Oh my god! His voice had no hint of sarcasm in it. At all!
"Help!" I yelled as pain shoot through my body. Darkness surrounded me, I could no longer see anything, not even Sam's body lying next to me. "000... in forest... quickly." But I couldn't continue or speck anything else, because I couldn't move anything, I could only feel the pain rippling through my whole body. I felt like I was on fire. But all that went away, as I painfully passed out.
