For most of his life, Bakugou never quite understood the idea of having friends. Sure, he always had them. Though he was loud and angry, something about him drew people in. In middle school, he thought that it was because of his confidence, his belief that he was better than everyone else around him. It was what made him popular.
And when he got to U.A., things were mostly the same. Except this time, he felt like his friends actually liked him for him. He always knew that he was difficult to love, but that didn't stop Kirishima from forcing him to hang out all the time.
That was how Bakugou got roped into hanging out with the others that wednesday night. Mina got permission for the seven of them to leave campus in order to try a new restaurant that had opened up nearby.
After they'd eaten, Jirou dragged Denki into a record store that they'd passed on the way in, which led the rest of the group to follow.
Akane heard the customers come in as the bells on the door jingled. She didn't bother to look up from the magazine sitting on the counter in front of her, as she welcomed them to the store.
However, Bakugou was paying attention. Upon entering the store, he scanned the room like he always did, his eyes landing on Akane's familiar lavender hair.
He recognized her immediately. It was difficult not to, when he'd been thinking about her since he saved her life. Bakugou was training to be a hero. He'd saved her from the villain, which was what heroes did, but for some reason, she stuck in his mind. And no matter how hard he tried to push her out of it, his brain wouldn't let him.
He froze when she finally looked up from her magazine. It wasn't like he could look away in embarrassment. He saved this girl's life. He was a real hero to her. How would it look if he turned away with a blush on his face? Instead, in true Bakugou nature, he sent a smirk her way.
"You!" She yelled, her eyes wide with surprise. She couldn't believe it. After all of her searching, and all the nights she stayed up thinking about him, he was right here in her store. She moved from behind the counter, rushing towards him, standing in the rock section of the store. "You're the boy who saved my life!"
"That's the girl you saved?" Kirishima asked Bakugou excitedly, standing beside him, and taking her appearance in.
"Have you been talking about me?" She teased as she watched him scowl.
"Tch, you wish!" He fired, and she giggled, which for some reason made him angrier.
"What's your name?" She asked, leaning forward a bit, "I've been looking for you, you know. I wanted to thank you."
"Bakugou Katsuki!" Sero came forward, clasping a hand on Bakugou's left shoulder, and introducing the boy to her with joy.
"Oi! Plain face! I can speak for myself!" He shouts to the black haired boy beside him.
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean you should." He retorted, earning a laugh from Akane.
"I'm Hayasaka Akane, but just call me Akane. You saved my life. We can be on a first name basis." She tells him, holding her hand out to shake. He looks at her delicate hand, hesitating, before slipping his into hers and returning the handshake.
"Well! Are you gonna introduce us?" A pink-skinned girl shoves Bakugou's shoulders from behind.
"Don't tell me what to do!" He yells, but he proceeds to tell Akane who his friends are. She learns that the boy with the tall red hair is Kirishima, the black haired boy with the large grin is Sero, the pink haired girl is Mina, the blond boy with longer hair behind them is called kaminari, and lastly the purple haired girl with bangs is named Jirou. She greets them all politely, almost immediately interested in them. However, they weren't her main priority right now. Bakugou was.
"Bakugou, I want to thank you for the other day. Can I buy you dinner sometime?" She asks, and the boy doesn't know what to say. When he doesn't say anything, Akane speaks again, "Are you free Friday night?"
"He's totally free!" Mina speaks up for him, pushing him once again from behind. Bakugou doesn't protest because, honestly, he doesn't want to. It was just dinner after all. It wasn't like much could come from it.
"Great!" The lavender haired girl smiled at him, "Can you meet me here around seven-thirty?"
At that point, it wasn't like he could tell her no. Truthfully, he didn't want to say no. He wanted to get dinner with her, and he wanted to talk to her, and he wanted to hear her sing his praises after saving her life. He had to deal with the strange realization that for the first time in his life he wanted to know someone. He wanted to know her.
"I'll be here." He shrugs, as if he doesn't actually care whether or not he sees you on Friday, but you don't miss the blush rising to the tips of his ears.
She watches as the group leaves the store, Bakugou holding the door for them to pass, before he shoots Akane one last look. To his surprise, she boldly winks at him, before looking back down at the magazine on the counter.
