Two Years Later

The sun beating down on my back, my knuckles white from the sweaty grip around around my suitcase, the fabric luggage tag rubbing up against my bare leg. Yep, I was in California alright.
Stepping onto the subway, I let out a deep sigh. It was loud, but at least the train was quieter than the airport, and I could gather my thoughts. I set my bags down and checked my phone. 8:02. Still a tad bit behind, but I'll make it either way.

Two Years Earlier

The thought of leaving got easier with each passing day. So easy that it even slipped my mind a few times. I hadn't thought about it- truly and entirely- till the day before I boarded the bus. It was on that day that Anthony and I, spending every last minute together to make up for lost time, received an inconspicuous invite to Lin's house. It was slipped under the apartment door, a little purple piece of paper with the words "My house, 2 o'clock. 2 means 2. Don't be late. Love ya!" and Lin's messy signature scribbled on to it. I picked it up, a smile crept across my face as I read it out loud. Anthony, who was pulling a shirt over his head as he walked out of the bathroom, water dripping off of his curly hair, responded with no more than a shrug.
"Should we go?" I set the note down on the end table and sat on the end of the bed. Anthony sat behind me and I swiveled around to face him.
"Hey man," He cleared his throat and ruffled his hair in a white towel. "To me, personally, it sounds like we don't really got a choice."
I shrugged and stood up off the bed. Seeing as it was already 12:30, I figured I should get ready for whatever Lin was going to throw in my direction today.
It wasn't until I turned to the closet, searching for something more presentable to wear, that I realized today was my last day here. My last day with Anthony, my last day with Lin, my last day with the friends I have made that grew into family over such a short period of time. I caught a glance of my suitcase and my bags piled in the corner, ready to carry six hours away from the life I grew to know.

Anthony, who must have noticed me staring at the bags like a dog watching her puppies get dragged away, wrapped his hands around my waist. He buried his nose in my shoulder. "Stop worrying about it baby," he mumbled, pulling me in tighter. "it's not like you're leaving forever, ya know?"
I nodded, still barely listening and being absorbed in my own thoughts. I didn't want to let him go, but I wasn't convinced of what other choices I had.

Two Years Later
((a/n if this is getting confusing im sorry lol))

I stood around the subway station, glancing around at the different walks of life that surrounded me. I was anxious to get out of the sweaty, gross, loud, potent station, but I couldn't see much farther than five feet ahead of me. I attempted to squeeze past people walking in every direction. Everything seemed to be closing in on me but suddenly, as if answering my silent cry for help, I managed to get through. My eyes filled with thick, hot tears the second my eyes met with his.
I dropped my bags and ran with no hesitation. I couldn't wait a second longer. Not one second. Before I could even catch my breath, Anthony's strong arms were wrapped around me, lifting me off the ground by my waist. He set my back down, my feet carefully hitting the hot pavement below me. Before any words could escape my mind, I reached up and ran my hands through his hair, which has been chopped off to short black curls popping curiously off his head.
"Where's your hair," I giggled, my fingers dancing through his wispy hair.
"Aw c'mon," he said slowly, a smile spread across both of our faces. "Do you not like it?"
I smiled, my eyes meeting his once again, and kissed him. "I love it."

"Okay okay, save it when we aren't in the middle of downtown LA," a familiarly comforting voice approached from the subway entrance. I spun around to see Lin, in all his glory, with a big smile and my suitcase in his arms.
As Anthony took my suitcase out of his hands and loaded it into a car behind me, I gave Lin a hug. I closed my eyes, soaking up the moment where i finally felt home again.
