Percy POV
Silence filled the room after I finished telling my tale of where I've been for the past few years. Shades of surprise, disbelief, shock, and wonder decorate the stillness.
Until the dam broke and chaos reigned.
No, Chaos Chaos, but chaos.
Some people stood up so quickly that they knocked their chair over. Shouting across the room at each other and pounding their fists on the ping pong table. While others sat there and contemplated what I had just told them.
"Enough," Chiron ordered, but was barely heard over the ruckus.
"Enough!" He boomed. Everybody froze and looked at the centaur. "Now, we will speak one at a time and maintain order."
The standing campers gradually sat down and waited impatiently. Except for one.
"How do we know he's not lying? How do we know he doesn't work for Kronos? How do we know he can be trusted?" Caleb remained standing.
The ones who don't know me nodded shot me accusing, suspicious glances. The ones who did, however, snorted and rolled their eyes.
Seems like we have another Octavian.
"Because he is Percy Jackson," Annabeth said confidently and I smiled gratefully at her. "Because Percy Jackson will take a blade for any of us. Because he willing fell into Tartarus for me. Do you have any proof that he is lying? That he is working for Kronos? That he can't be trusted? No, you don't. And if you don't believe that or the adventures told by the camp fire, then you'll have to find out yourself."
By the end of her speech the tips of my ears were tinted a slight red. I studied the patterned wood on the floor. Luke nudged me.
"Atta girl." I heard Chaos whisper.
"Well? You talk of proof? Then I want proof," an arrogant voice sounded. My head snapped up in anger and glared at my half-brother.
I opened my mouth to retort until Chaos stepped up. "I am your proof."
"Yeah? Who are you?"
"I am Chaos."
Caleb sneered. "You must be the smallest, least important god there is then. Because I haven't heard of you."
Annabeth's and Chiron's eyes widened in shock while Jax's, Luke's and mine narrows in anger. We all took a menacing step forward to beat him into bloody pulp, but Chaos stopped us.
"I am Chaos, Creator of All, Lord of the Universe and I come bearing news," Chaos calmly said, not at all affected by Caleb's scathing words.
Chiron straightened. "Good or bad?"
"That all depends on you."
Clarissa impatiently tapped the butt if her dagger on the table. "Well? What's the news?"
"Patience, Miss La Rue. One, I have learned how Kronos managed to keep Annabeth's existence from me. In the Celtic religion, women are very important. They carry children, take care of their family, but the most critical component, they can perform magic. Or so Celts believe. The Celts did human sacrifice but do not anymore. Celts used they sacrifices in hope that they will heal another being or that they will be rewarded from it."
"What does this have to do with Kronos?" Someone asked. I glowered at him and he quieted.
"Kronos is doing something similar. He has killed the total of 47 people to achieve this secrecy-" gasps rose throughout the room. My carefully composed face almost broke. Jax's eye twitched and Luke's fists clenched. Chaos continued, "I am not going to tell you how, but it is possible. That is all."
Chiron stepped forward with shaky hands. "Anything else, sir?"
"Yes. Second form of business, there is a monster camp a few miles from here. There are probably 2,000 waiting to attack tonight. As of right now, there are only 10 to 20 standing guard. the rest are siting there eating, sleeping, twiddling their thumbs just waiting to be attacked." Chaos said.
"Well? What in the Hades are we waiting for? To be monster food? Let's attack!" A camper yelled. Shouts of approval rang. Chiron stomped his hooves and the room once agin quieted down.
"I will send Jax, Luke, and Percy to exterminate this camp." Chaos announced. Again, noise broke out in the Big House. This time, instead of approval, Chaos's statement was met with protests. To be honest, I was quite shocked myself.
"Lord Chaos, if I may," Chiron started and continued when he was given a nod. "It would be wise to send one or two campers of my own to help them exterminate the camp. This way, the campers will learn to trust the three."
Chaos stood there with a thoughtful expression. "Yes, that is a wonderful idea, Chiron. Who will be the ones to accompany them on the quest?"
"I volunteer," a boy with dark hair said.
Caleb. I wrinkle my nose with disgust.
"Very well. Anyone else?"
"So will I." The Aphrodite girl from earlier said.
All three of us groaned internally. What kind of whacked up team is this?
"I'm going,too."
Finally someone I actually like.i beamed.
"Alright. Caleb, Drew, and Annabeth will go with Luke, Jax, and Percy. Any objections?" Chiron scanned the room to find several raised hands.
"Clarisse?"
"I object Caleb and Drew."
"Why?"
"Drew will hold the sword the wrong way and run herself through with an enemy sword and Caleb..."
"What? Nothing to say about me?" the boy in question shot out.
Clarisse glowered. "No, it's just that my choice words will send me straight to Tartarus."
"I don't care what these people say, I'm going," he announced.
"Caleb, maybe you should reconsider since-"
"Actually, let him come," I interjected.
Twenty heads swiveled to me.
"What?"
I gave an innocent shrug with a not so innocent grin. "Why not? It will be great experience for a newbie like him."
"Newbie! Outrageous! I have been here for a long time."
I turned to my two best friends. "What do you guys think?"
"I'm ok with it," Jax said and fed Seymour a sausage.
Luke nodded and whispered to us, "It'll be a great time to teach him a lesson too. Whoops, I thought you were a monster."
We snickered.
"Looks like one too," Jax added.
Chaos caught us and gave us scolding looks like we were bad children hiding something from their father. Neverless, a grin tugged at the corners if his mouth.
"I agree 100% with Percy about keeping Caleb, but Drew has to go," Jax said.
"Excuse you! I am staying," she shrieked.
Jax held his hands out in a helpless gesture. "I'm sorry, but we need all the fighters we can get."
She made a loud, frustrated sound and stormed out. But before she exited the room, she said to us, "You guys are no longer to cute me."
I saw Annabeth slightly narrow her eyes and grinned at her jealousy. Everybody had amused expressions on their faces and some had smug ones too.
Chaos cleared his throat. "Last piece of business, I have learned that Kronos' army will attack tomorrow morning."
Once more, figurative Chaos erupted.
