My 18th birthday ended how I pretty much expected it to.
On the roof while I gazed at the stars and the moon in the sky.
It was a beautiful view, so I wasn't complaining about that. The moon was even full for me, as if it was saying happy birthday.
After Kimmy left with her mum, I waited again.
I waited for my mum to acknowledge my birthday or something, but still nothing.
Even though I tried my hardest, a sneaky tear still managed to escape and slide down one side of my face. My heart ached and I held my hands on my chest, trying my hardest to ease the pain, but it wouldn't work.
I was heartbroken.
And I was alone.
For a few minutes, I stared at the moon and then I closed my eyes.
"Thanks moon," I whispered and then I sprawled my arms and legs out like a starfish as I fell onto my back. My heart was calm, I was calm and the night breeze seemed to cool down my heated body. I inhaled deeply and welcomed the scent of forest drifting on the wind. It seemed to carry with it a new scent.
Cinnamon?
"Why are you thanking the moon?"
My eyes flung open and I sat up so fast, I felt my lower back crack a little. I pushed down the urge to yell out in pain and I looked at the body suddenly planted next to mine.
It was mysterious new guy neighbour.
The one who winked at me.
He looked at me and smiled with dimples so deep I wanted to shove my finger in them. His hair was blowing effortlessly in the wind and he was wearing a thick coat even though it was fairly warm.
Weird.
But God he was beautiful.
Like the Gods themselves carved him from stone.
And that smile.
It made me melt in some pretty embarrassing ways.
I avoided his beautiful sapphire eyes and looked down as I pulled my knees to my chest.
He chuckled a little and I felt my cheeks burn against the cool night breeze. It was doing nothing for this burn travelling through my body at the moment.
"Sorry if I scared you. I saw someone up here and I was pretty surprised to know it was you," he explained. I didn't know how to respond. I looked up momentarily and met his gaze again. He looked unfazed while I think I looked like a nervous mess. His features looked extra defined in the moonlight. He had high cheekbones and long lashes that fanned them. The wind stopped blowing and his bangs fell onto his forehead in a heap. They were almost covering his beautiful sapphire eyes and I had the strangest urge to move it out of the way.
So I did.
Almost instinctively, my hand moved to brush his hair to the side.
He froze but he didn't remove his eyes from mine. He also didn't move or say anything for the few seconds my fingers rested on his forehead.
Crap!
"Oh! I'm sorr---" before I could finish my sentence and remove my hand, he grabbed it in the air.
He was warm.
His hand was warm.
So warm that it felt like I was touching an oven.
