"Come on Rosie, you never come out anymore and all I wanna do is hang out at the park or something. Especially today. Maybe go for a hike? You know, let's do something fun!" I stared at Kimmy who smiled at me widely. Her blonde hair was tied back into a high pony and she basically covered herself in perfume today. She smelt like mangoes.
She was also pestering me about doing stuff today because of one fact.
Today was my birthday.
My 18th birthday to be exact. I didn't really want to do anything except maybe sleep and then wake up and read. Then I would repeat it again tomorrow. It was kinda my thing.
My fun thing to do.
No one understood it more than me I guess and I had absolutely no problem with that.
Kimmy here didn't understand it either.
She was from Ketterman.
I live in a small town called Moorefield in West Virginia. I moved here however, from my birth country Australia, about a year ago and that was because mum wanted to move somewhere random.
So she grabbed a globe, spun it and then threw a dart at it. Of course it landed on an area that had a population of less than 3,000 people, in the middle of nowhere.
And in a place where most of the rules for just about every aspect of life, including and especially school, are different.
Waayyyy different.
School apparently started in September and it's currently July. In Australia, we would be starting a new term of school right about now.
Third term to be exact.
And come next month, I would be starting my second year of American highschool as a Senior. Last year, I was a Junior.
Weird year in my opinion.
Like, why are year 11 students called Juniors? In Australia Seniors were in year 10 up and Juniors were year 7 up.
At least at my old high school anyway.
It's been a year now and I think I have it down though.
I just need to go to school, attend my classes and try not to pull my hair out over the fact I have way too many periods, and then go home and collapse.
Not before finishing my homework first. My mum wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I slept before completing my homework
And then I would sleep.
Or maybe eat.
Or hike and look out at the world that's free, while I'm stuck here in Moorefield.
Anyways, back to Kimmy. She lives in a town about an hour away called Ketterman, which was way more in the middle of nowhere than Moorefield and she visited me since we became friends at a pep rally I snuck into last year.
Most exciting thing to happen in my life to be honest.
Although, nothing much happened. I expected more since they were portrayed in american movies as fun, but it was quite... boring. I guess since I knew no one. Only Kimmy talked to me. Not even the girls who invited me.
I think their names were something like Whitney and Chloe, but who cares. I did, however, see them kissing guys behind trees.
Yuck...
All I really know is, they ditched me. They ditched me and I was alone, wondering around the bondfire, looking at the other very underage students getting it on.
