Chapter 22 - Unfair Reality

Steven POV

"MR KNIGHT! MS KNIGHT!"

Chief Benji's booming voice woke us up from our slumber as he shouted our name and knocked on the door repeatedly. I looked at my watch to see it was 12:47 in the afternoon. I don't know if we sleep that long. I got up from the bed with Sarah and walked towards the door then opened it to reveal Chief Benji who looks like he just runs a marathon.

"What's wrong?" I ask tiredly, rubbing the sleepiness from my eyes and yawning loudly.

Chief Benji just stands there for a moment, panting heavily while resting one of his hands on the door frame and the other on his knee as he tried to catch his breath.

I frown in confusion and concern "Are you okay?"

"Y-yeah, I'm okay. Don't worry about me." I can tell he was trying his best to calm himself down. as he stood up straight, still panting heavily, as he cleared his throat. "A-anyway, there's something important I must tell you both....." He paused for a second to take a deep breath. "it was about your son."

My breath hitched and my heart began to beat faster inside my chest as he said that. The tiredness and sleepiness I felt before were gone within a second "YOU GUYS FOUND HIM? PLEASE TELL ME YOU DID?" 

"Yes, the search squad called me just now saying that they finally found him!" He answered.

"THANKS, GOD! WHERE IS HE? IS HE OKAY? WHERE IS HE NOW?" We quickly ask, still feeling worried and scared.

"Calm down Mr Mrs Knight. He was in the hospital right now. Unfortunately, I don't know any details or the condition of your son and that's why we need to go to the hospital right away. Maybe we can get more information when we get there I'll be waiting in my car so you both need to get ready." He said before walking down the hallway towards the building's front exit

Without wasting time, Sarah and I quickly rushed to change our clothes, not bothering to take a shower since our son was our number one priority right now, We quickly jog outside towards Chief Benji's car.......

The drive towards the hospital was very unfortunate and super stressful since there was a traffic jam on almost every traffic light and I'm just a moment away from losing my mind to just jump out of the car and break that stupid traffic light right then and there. After about half an hour, we finally arrived at the hospital and without waiting for Chief Benji to park his car, Sarah and I quickly jumped out of the car as soon as it slowed down enough and we rushed inside towards the emergency section. I ask the nurse behind the counter where's our son at and the nurse types something on the computer for a moment before telling us that our son is in the surgery room and pointed towards the direction we need to go. By that time, Chief Benji finally showed up after he parked his car and jogged towards us.

Thanking the nurse, we rushed towards the direction of the surgery room. As we got there, I saw a german shepherd beastman in police uniform sitting on the long chair that was right outside the room. The german shepherd beastman immediately stood straight up and he saw us approaching.

"Brother Benji, Mr Mrs Knight! Finally, you were here!" The beastman said with relieves.

"Sorry, we were late, Lil bro. There's long traffic on our way here." Chief Benji said and turned toward us."Mr Mrs Knight, this is my little brother, Officer Benson. He is the one that found your son." The officer bowed down and held his hand out, I shook it.
