CHAPTER THREE:
THE MAGIC LETTERS☍︎︎
DAISY DEBATED TELLING HER PARENTS FOR THREE DAYS ABOUT THE LETTER BUT SETTLED ON KEEPING IT A SECRET.
Her parents despised magic, even the thought of it, and she didn't exactly want to cause a problem. Her father had been in a mood since her and Dudley's birthday when the glass disappeared on the boa constrictor.
Since Daisy's decision to keep it a secret, about a month passed and Harry had been stuck in the cupboard the entire time. Daisy felt bad for him, she'd even snuck him a couple of biscuits when Petunia wasn't looking, but she didn't speak to him or offer any words of comfort. Pity and friendship were two different things -- and she did not want to be his friend. She didn't understand why he was locked in the cupboard -- it wasn't as though he made the glass vanish. Then again, each time she thought that the letter crept into her mind -- maybe it was real after all?
"Daisy!" Petunia called, getting her and Dudley's uniforms ready for school. Daisy stuffed the letter in her nightstand drawer -- she'd been looking at it almost every day since her birthday -- and rushed downstairs. "Come here, try this on!"
Daisy stood in front of her mother with an expectant look on her face, her eyes drifting to Dudley who sat in front of the television. They'd be going to different schools now, Dudley at an all-boys private school called Smeltings, and Daisy at an all-girls school called Willowby's. The thought of being in a separate school from her brother gave her a rush of anxiety, even though they hadn't been close in a long time.
She'd have to start fresh and being all alone in a brand new school didn't sound that exciting.
Petunia grabbed Dudley's attention, helping him into his new uniform -- which Daisy thought looked atrocious. A maroon tailcoat, orange trousers, and a flat straw hat. They even carried knobbly sticks, used to hit each other when teachers weren't looking. Vernon said it had "good training for later in life" but Daisy didn't see how that made much sense.
When Dudley was finished, he moved to sit at the table next to their father and Daisy stepped up for her blazer fitting.
Daisy's uniform was far more simple -- and didn't have the ugly hat -- with a green and black plaid skirt, clear tights, as well as a bright green blazer, a black button-up shirt, and a pair of mary jane's. Daisy's blazer was a bit too droopy on the sleeves, and her mother focused diligently on hitching them up.
"Mum, I look rubbish in green," Daisy complained. "It makes my skin look funny."
Petunia shook her head. "Nonsense, Daisy-Dear, you look wonderful."
Daisy rolled her eyes, sinking a bit as her mother fiddled with the new clothes. She glanced up as Harry finished with the eggs and toast, and the mail slot clicked as papers flew to the floor.
"Get the mail, Dudley," Vernon ordered as Dudley beat the side of the table with his new cane.
"Make Harry get it," Dudley retorted and Daisy winced as her mother accidentally pricked her with the needle.
"Get the mail, Harry," Vernon told Harry.
"Make Dudley get it."
Daisy raised her eyebrows at Harry's remark and fought back laughter at her father's next words.
"Poke him with your smelting stick, Dudley."
Harry dodged the stick, rushing from the room to the mail and stopping in the hall to look over the mail. Petunia finished a moment later and Daisy shrugged off the blazer, walking to her cousin in suspicion.
