"Thank you for coming in Mr and Mrs Barnes." Mr Phil Coulson said as everyone took their seat.
"What's this about?" Winnie Barnes said
"It appears that James is failing. It's only a month into his freshmen year here. Normally we wouldn't hold these meetings. But since he is a athlete we have to do this." Maria Hill said
Bucky was sitting there in between his parents chewing on his lip. "How bad is it? Cause he's never had a problem before?" James said
"He is failing history English algebra and Science. He is passing gym and art." Maria said
"James honey why haven't you come to me. I could at least help you with English. That's what I teach at the middle school." Winnie said
Bucky looked down.
"What should we do?" James said
"Well after speaking with Coach Fury. He would like to extend a partial probation. Which means he would be allowed to attend practice and play in games. As long as we set him up with tutor that has the same study hall period as him." Phil said
"What? No I lift with Brody and some of my other team mates during study hall." Bucky said
"Well that's changing son. Coach Fury is giving you a chance to improve your grades. You boys can lift another time." James said
Bucky sighed.
"We have one freshmen tutor available. She has second period study hall. We can set you up with her." Maria said as she read over her list
"Great. Set that up. You can thank your brother later James. Study hall isn't for lifting weights it's for studying." James said
Bucky looked down as the meeting continued. Once it was over he rejoined his third period class of art class since it was Monday.
The next morning Bucky met Maria outside the library when the bell rang for second period.
"Your late.." Maria said
"I was walking my girl to her class." He said as he followed her inside.
Standing at the librarian's desk was a blonde with glasses on.
"Ms Jones thanks for meeting me. I have a new student for you to tutor. This is Bucky Barnes I'm sure is how you know him. Here is his folder with teacher comments." Maria said
"Thank you." She said as she took the folder.
Bucky seen the little blonde wearing ripped jeans a pink fitted shirt with white converse shoes. Her nails were done with acrylics she definitely didn't scream nerd.
Maria left them alone she looked at him. "Hi I'm Skylar." She said
"Hi Skylar." He said
"Follow me. I always sit at the same table." She said as she started to walk off.
Bucky followed her up the stairs to the second level of the library. They sat down beside each other.
"Okay..so this says you have Science 1st period. So let's see what you did this morning." She said
He opened up his science book to show him the worksheet they did in class.
"It's mainly when I have homework that gets me in trouble." He said
"Why?" She said
"Because I have football practice and games. I'm the JV captain..and my girlfriend Isobel." He said
"Okay.." she said
"Are you an athlete?" He said
"No..unless you count the debate team but most jocks don't." She said
"Are you a new student to Garrett High?" He said
"No..I mean I'm a freshmen like you. But I'm not a new resident." She said
Bucky swallowed hard. "Well we only have one middle school and high school. But two elementary schools. But I haven't seen you around before." He said
"Probably because you are part of the jock crowd." She said
"Which elementary school did you go to?" He said
"Lincoln Elementary." She said as she made him a set of questions from the last test he took in science.
Bucky realized why he hadn't seen her really before. She lived in the city limits which meant she probably has rich parents. He lived passed the city limits they had their own elementary school which was Hartland Elementary.
He lived in what most of the city kids call Farm Country. She certainly screamed city girl with the nails but she was also very quiet and soft spoken.
"Okay. Here you go I made you new questions with the test that you failed last Thursday. So here try these." She said as she flipped her hair to one side.
Bucky got a small whiff of her perfume.
"Fruity and citrus." He thought to himself.
He felt his phone buzz.
"Little bro where are you? You have been quiet since last night."
"Little bro?"
Bucky ignored Brody's texts as he continued to do his mock test. Once he was done she graded it.
"Much better." She said
Bucky chewed on his lip trying to figure out the scent she was wearing. Everytime she moved her hair or was close to him he could smell it.
Once the bell rang that second period was over Bucky gathered up his stuff. She looked at him "So just study hall sessions?" She said
"Yeah. I'm only on partial probation." He said
"Okay." She said
"See you around..or tomorrow." He said as he left her there.
That night Bucky joined his family at the dinner table. He was one of six the youngest to be exact.
"How was your first tutoring session James?" Winnie said
"Tutoring? Mom he is was at practice." Brody said
"He has tutoring during the period you had him lifting." James said
"Is that where you were today? I tried texting you." Brody said
Bucky looked down. "Yeah." He said
"Well you could said that." Brody said
"No. You aren't to be texting your brother anymore during school. You can't be distracting him. I was worried about how you two would be attending school together again." Winnie said
"Mom.." Brody said
"I'm not hungry anymore." He said
"Honey you have barely ate. And I want to know who this girl is that is tutoring you." Winnie said
"Her name is Skylar Jones mom." He said
"Dr Duncan Jones' daughter?" Winnie said
"Definitely would explain the city girl vibe I got today. I'm going to bed I'm tired." He said as he walked off.
