It felt like his breath and heartbeat was drowning out the sound of everything around him.
Both Allen and Lavi were running down the long dirt road, side by side with nothing but forest surrounding the path. For a quick moment during their run, everything seemed to drown into nothingness for Allen.
His mind went numb with his body moving simply on instinct. The only thoughts that were able to run through his mind in that moment were dull and numbed as well.
'The ground is hard.'
'I'm running.'
'Lavi is next to me.'
'My breath is so loud.'
These thoughts swirled around his head, surrounded by nothing.
His mind finally snapped back into place when he felt a violent force behind him, knocking him to the ground. It felt as though someone had kicked him as hard as they could into his lower back.
He turned around, his mind clear and focused now, just to see the man from before with the long blonde hair. He wore a creepy smile while seemingly laughing at Allen. He was also on the ground as well, grinning at the white-haired man.
As the man was getting up, Allen saw a fast movement from his place on the ground before Lavi appeared in view. His friend gave the man a harsh kick in the face, forcing him backwards.
"Come on Allen!" Lavi yelled out, yanking Allen to his feet before they took off once more.
Once they begun their run again, Allen took a quick glance behind him. He saw the kicked man slowly getting back up, with the blonde haired woman running past him, intent on reaching the two.
Farther back behind them, most importantly, Allen saw the gunman. He was giving chase as well, but at a much slower speed. More than likely from the injury Lavi gave him from trying to run him over a moment ago.
As Allen was turning forward again, he saw the gunman raise his weapon once more.
"Run into the forest! Now!" Allen yelled out.
"Wh-!" Lavi got out, before Allen grabbed a fistful of his shirt and yanking him over as he turned left towards the dense forest.
Behind them, they heard gunshots and bullets hit the ground around their feet as they entered the unknown area.
