Newt spent most of the weekend in his room, planning on how he was going to ask Tina out to the prom.
Should I do some kind of dramatic gesture? Like a surprise or something? He asked himself as he laid on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Then, he shook his head. No, I don't think Tina the type for dramatic things.
How about something simple? A voice in his head suggested.
Newt considered the thought. That would be nice. For all he knew, Tina was a simple girl. And that suits her perfectly, Newt thought, a smile creeping up his lips. Simply beautiful, simply kind, smart, talented–Newton, stop! Focus!
Sighing, Newt sat up, scratching his head. Why does this have to be so hard?! If only I was like Theseus, he'd never have a problem doing this.
A light bulb lit up in his head.
"That's it! Theseus!" he exclaimed, snapping his fingers. He scrambled out of his bed to grab his phone from his desk.
Theseus was currently in his second year of university, his course being law, major in criminal justice. He wouldn't be back until tomorrow evening, so Newt's choice was to either call him or text him.
He went for call.
Pressing the green call icon on his phone, Newt held the device to his ear, waiting for his older brother to pick up.
He didn't pick up after the first two rings. It wasn't new for Newt. Theseus usually picked up after the third. But after two more rings, he didn't pick up. A few rings later, the robotic voice informed him that Theseus wasn't available and that his messages will go straight to voice mail.
Newt sighed and tried calling him again. Once, then twice. Three times.
Nope, nothing. No answer.
I guess he's busy, then...
Newt placed his phone on his bedside table and fell back into bed, groaning into his palms.
Why did I even agree with Leta's suggestion yesterday? This was hard for him. All this asking a girl out thing wasn't for him. Definitely. Especially when that girl is Tina Goldstein.
"I might as well stay home," he muttered, running a hand through his copper hair. "Someone must've asked her already..."
"Someone must've asked who already?" someone asked.
Newt started and quickly sat up to look at his bedroom door. There, leaning against the doorframe, was his younger sister. She had her copper hair in a low ponytail and her hands in the pockets of her sweatpants, eyeing him with her curious blue eyes.
"Prim," Newt breathed, placing a hand over his heart. "You gave me a fright."
"Yeah, sure," she said dismissively. She pushed herself off the doorframe. "Mum said dinner's ready."
"Alright," Newt nodded, getting out of bed. "I'll head down in a minute."
Newt walked over to his mirror. He picked up his come and attempted to fix his mussed up hair, to no avail. After another attempt or two, Newt gave up and dropped the comb. When he turned towards the door, he almost fell back because of Prim who was still standing there.
"Primrose," he hissed.
Prim didn't say anything, instead only staring at him, an eyebrow raised. Newt sighed again.
"What?"
Prim didn't answer for a moment. "Who were you talking about back there?" she asked, tilting her head a bit to one side.
