I feel as if the biggest step in any relationship is moving in together. Once we move in together; everything changes. I suddenly get thrown from the life you used to live, alone, to living with your significant other. It’s a huge step in any relationship. And it was the step I was about to take with Harry.
We have been together a little over a year, and since the day I met him, I was captivated by him. Captivated by the small things that most wouldn’t recognize, let alone care about.
Like how he would silently hum while cooking, how he wore beanies so he wouldn’t shower, or how he always makes the bed; and gets extremely fussy if he came over to my place and saw my sheets in a crumpled mess. To the world, he was the cheeky curly haired boy from One Direction, but to me, he was the love of my life.
He came to my flat roughly thirty minutes ago to help pack last minute things, and then I was leaving the flat for forever. It was my very first place, so it had a lot of sentimental value to me. I stood looking at my empty bedroom when he came in, running his hands from my back to holding me tightly around my stomach.
“Whatcha thinking, babe?” I turned my head to the left and looked up a little, my blue eyes meeting his emerald green that made me go weak at the knees.
“Just how weird it is that tomorrow I’ll be waking up to a completely different room. It’s just, I feel weird, you know?” He smiled slightly.
“You’re starting a new chapter in your life, that’s all. No need to feel weird about it, I would too. But our room is much larger, and besides, you’ll wake up to me next to you…that’s a definite benefit.” I rolled my eyes.
“Very true, speaking of which, look what I bought!” I walked over to my purse and pulled out a pair of pink ear plugs.
“Look!” He laughed, “Is my snoring that bad?” I nodded my head, “It’s awful, babe.” I said to him. I set the ear plugs back in the purse and picked it up. “We all set?” He nodded, “Yepp, just carried the last box down. I’ll go start the car, meet you out there.”
I heard his footsteps as he walked down the hallway, echoing back into my bedroom because the flat was so empty. I walked to the door frame, looked at it one last time, exhaled, turned the light off and walked out for the last time.
I closed the door and set my head against it, shutting my eyes quickly as the memories flooding back. Here was the place I shared my first kiss with him, when he ran his fingers through my hair as I placed my small hands onto his chest, feeling his heart beating.
I opened up my eyes and walked away, ready to start the next chapter in my life. When I got in the car he half smiled at me, threw his arm around my shoulder to pull me closer to him where he planted a soft kiss on my forehead. He moved his arm back to the steering wheel and drove away.
When we arrived at the new house, we were pleased to see that the movers had just finished putting all the boxes in the appropriate rooms.
“Did you really leave them here without supervision?” I asked, worried. He laughed it off, “No, my mum is here, she wanted to do some last minute cleaning for us and make sure that everything was in it’s proper spot. You know how she likes to involve herself in things. I figured that she’d be the best person to do it.” I nodded.
“Very true, thanks for that.” We grabbed the three cardboard boxes from the trunk and walked in, immediately being greeted by Anne. I set my box and purse down on the kitchen counter, as Harry took the other two boxes to the bedroom. “It’s so nice to see you,” she said walking up to me, her arms open wide for a hug. “Nice to see you too,” I said as I hugged her.
Harry then walked in the room and she walked up to him and took him in his arms. “I made you two some lemonade and there’s a batch of cookies that’s cooling down on top of the stove. And I went ahead and bought you a couple of necessary grocery items. And also, Harry, I went ahead and paid the movers since you weren’t here, I used the check book you left behind.” We both smiled at her and thanked her.
“It’s not a big deal, well I’m going to go ahead and let you two settle in. Call me in a couple days and I’ll organize a house warming party for you both. Oh and I know it’s a little late, but I didn’t know if you had eaten dinner yet, if not, I made you guys some dinner too. It’s in the fridge!” Harry smiled, “Thanks mum, see you soon.” She hugged us both and walked out of the front door.
Harry threw an arm around my shoulder, “Welcome home.” I looked up and smiled at him, “Welcome home to you too, babe.” He leaned his head down and placed a long kiss on the top of my head. “So how about dinner?” Harry walked over to the refrigerator, “She made us some grilled chicken and a stir fry of vegetables.” He said pulling the items out of the fridge.
I walked over to the cabinets and opened them, “I forgot…We have to unpack all of our kitchen items.” He laughed, “Very true. Hey, lets just eat these out of the Tupperware, it’ll be like a cute little picnic, lets eat on the ground too. I don’t want to have to reassemble the dining room table right now.” I nodded my head and quickly searched the boxes for two forks, then walked over to Harry, who was sitting on the ground already.
We sat together, eating out of the Tupperware, and occasionally feeding each other bites of food. When it was all done, we placed the remnants back into the refrigerator and the two forks into the sink.
I walked into the bedroom, and searched for the box that was labeled with our comforter and pillows. I made the bed quickly, making sure it was up to Harry’s standards. I then unpacked our bathroom supplies. I walked back out into the family room where he was unpacking the movies.
“Harry?” His eyes shot up to me, “Yes?” “Can we just quit for the night, and just relax or go to sleep?” He smiled, “If that’s what you’d like.” We walked back into the dark bedroom, and flicked on the light and began drawing back the sheets. The light began to flicker, and then completely faded out. I laughed, “Is this really happening? Where did we pack extra lightbulbs?” He shook his head, “We didn’t pack them, babe. They’d get crushed. We were going to buy them tomorrow, remember? It’s not a big deal, I’ll be right back.”
He came back minutes later, his arms filled with candles and a lighter. He placed the candles all around the room, positioned on top of the cardboard boxes surrounding us. He lit them one by one and then walked up to me, his face glowing by the flames.
“May I have this dance?” He said, placing a hand on my waist and lifting the other for my hand to intertwine with. “You may,” I said, stepping closer to him. I grabbed on to his shoulder and placed my hand in his. He softly sang to me, as we slowly danced around our new room. He lifted his arm away and spun me slowly, then I coiled back into his body again.
We stood there dancing for a while, when I yawned loudly. “Ready for bed, babe?” I rubbed my sore eyes, “Very much so.” We both quickly changed and brushed our teeth together then walked around the room blowing out all the candles. We got in bed and he opened up his arms for me to join him. I snuggled in closer, setting my head onto his chest as his arm draped around my back. He fell asleep quickly, where I was reminded that I forgot to grab my earplugs. I struggled to break loose, and eventually gave up. I’d have to get use to his snore sooner or later, because in that very moment.
I realized this was the boy I wanted to spend every night with.
