As we were touring the arena, a huge mine explosion set off out of nowhere. My eyes were widened in fear, seeing a couple of tributes die on the spot. Their bodies engulfed in flames, and the sounds of screams boom throughout the entire amphitheater. My eyes blink rapidly at the sight of the burning bodies. Out of panic, I sprint out to the nearest exit, only to see another pair of tributes and my district partner, Marcus, running alongside me.
Once we got into the opening, Marcus and I instantly split paths. I wish him the best of luck since he was probably the only person I found bearable out of all the tributes. My eyes instantly spot a small river, but there was no way I'm able to swim in it. By the end of the river, there is a wall short enough to be jumped over. I dash as fast as I could to the wall in a rush and climb over it with ease. As soon as I stood on the top of the wall, ready to jump, I knew it would be risky. It's hard to tell how high up I was, but it didn't matter. I can hear the sound of footsteps coming, peacekeepers hunting me down. This is my only chance. I step off of the wall, closing my eyes. What I didn't know was that I'd never open them again.
