~ that evening ~
Your POV
Alex hadn't shown up all day, and I didn't know if I was more concerned, nervous, or upset. Laf was confused when he got home, Herc seemed more concerned if anything, and although John also came off as concerned, I knew he was suppressing some anger.
If any of us had a right to be suspicious honestly, it was John. And he certainly was. His and Alex's relationship before Laf and Herc had gotten rather rocky at times, so...
"I just don't get it. We saw him literally last night, and now he's nowhere to be found?" Herc spoke up.
We were all at John and Alex's, waiting for said latter man to return.
"Tell me about it. I felt him get into bed sometime last night and when I woke up this mornin', he was already gone. Not that that's abnormal, 'cause he's almost always at work by the time I get there," John responded.
"Has he even responded any of our messages?" I asked, grabbing my phone to check.
"Non. 'e 'asn't even read mine," Laf answered, shaking his head.
"I think I was the last one of us to send a message so I highly doubt he has," Herc added.
"I needa check. I don't think he did though," John spoke up last, reaching for his phone on the coffee table.
I tapped Alex's name in my messages, seeing my two messages unread as well. I sighed, closing the app and shutting my phone off. "He didn't even read mine either."
John huffed and I looked back up, watching my boyfriend toss his own device back onto the coffee table. "Nothin'."
He leaned back into the couch, arms folding across his chest as a sort of scowl crossed his face. "I don't know what the f*ck he's doin', but he better have a damn good excuse for ignorin' all four of us."
Laf, being next to John, turned to face him better, setting a hand on his shoulder. "Mon amour, we will figure it out, do not worry."
"Yeah, we're gonna figure it out, but who says it's somethin' not worrisome?" I asked. "I'm sorry, but this seems way too unusual to not be concerning."
"Per'aps 'e's just... more focused than usual?" Laf suggested after a moment. "'e 'as 'is moments."
John scoffed, sitting upright although his arms stayed crossed. "No. Even when he's workin' like that, he still knows how to reply. I have to agree with (N/N)."
"Then what do you suggest is 'appening?" Laf responded skeptically.
"You seriously can't be thinking he's off doin' that," Herc added before John could answer.
"What? Cheated?" John answered coolly. "He's done it to me before. Why do y'all think him and Eliza were a thing for a while?"
"Babe, that was in highschool. We're out of college now," Herc reminded.
"Okay, and?" John raised an eyebrow. "Just 'cause it's been a few years since he did it doesn't mean he wouldn't ever do it again."
"'e 'as no reason to now, amour. You know 'e lov--" Laf started, only to get cut off by John as he stood up.
"There's never a reason to cheat, Laf; there's never a valid reason for it! But that don't stop people from goin' around and doin' it anyway, does it? No!"
"John, calm down," Herc warned.
John shot him a look, but crossed his arms again, sighing heavily. "Just don't go rulin' it out, seriously."
"In John's defense," I spoke up, "I'm pretty sure I saw a mark near Alex's neck last night. It was hard to see because of his shirt collar, but I think somethin' was there."
"You think or there was?" Herc questioned.
I turned around - having been sat on the floor in front of him - raising an eyebrow. "Does it matter? You just not gonna take my word for it if I think I saw it?"
"Per'aps it was just the lighting," Laf insisted. "Or you looked trop vite." (...too quickly.)
"Um, no, it wasn't the lighting. And I didn't look too quickly either. It was dark and definitely looked like it coulda been a hickey," I defended.
"You're jumping to a conclusion here, sweetheart," Herc responded. "Both of you are."
"A conclusion that is adding up," I countered, moving to stand as well. "You and Laf can't be telling us that you can look us in the eyes and not only insist he isn't capable of cheating again, but that you believe yourselves too."
"Mais il ne le ferait pas!" Laf exclaimed suddenly. (But he wouldn't!)
I turned to face him instead, seeing him about to stand too. Of course a conversation like this was about to escalate. "And why wouldn't he? John already said it: if he can do it once, he's plenty capable of doing it again. Anyone is capable of doing it, even if you think you're not!"
"Anyone is capable, huh?"
A new voice from near the door caught all of us momentarily off-guard. I looked over, seeing none other than Alex. I couldn't help but wonder how much he'd heard. I guess we'd find out.
"Yeah," I answered, folding my arms... well, tried to. Stupid sling. "So why's there a hickey on your neck, Lex?"
Alex appeared surprised. "You must've been seeing things, love."
Before I could continue, he walked over towards us and adjusted his collar. I was sure enough expecting to see the dark spot but...
...there wasn't anything by his neck.
"As I was saying... is there something you aren't telling any of us, (N/N)?"
