❝ made my decision to test my limits ❞

I returned to class the next day and took my usual spot next to Stone.

"Hey Stone," I greeted and set my bag down.

"Hey, Chanel," he replied with his head down on his desk.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before Stone spoke up.

"Where were you yesterday?"

"I was at the hospital. My dad got admitted but he's okay now." I brought out my pencil bag and notebooks.

"Oh, yikes. That sucks."

"Yeah... hey, you wouldn't happen to know a place to work right? I need extra money ASAP."

"That depends on how limited your boundaries are," Stone said mischievously.

"What do mean?" My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "I hope your not implying what I think your implying, Stone."

"Well, if you don't want to be a stripper," he chuckles, "then I may have a job for you. But beware, it's a little... illegal."

"I'm listening," I said as I raised a tentative eyebrow.

"Well, I'm stocked up with my...business, but I know where the shipments drop and are regulated and stuff."

"Wait like...drugs?" I asked uncertainly. He nods in confirmation.

"Yep. The next shipment is on Friday, and its from one of the bigger organizations. You can intercept a batch or two and bring it back to my safe house. There, we'll distribute the goods and you will get a hell of a lot of money," he whispers when the professor enters the room.

"How much?" I question with apprehension laced in my voice.

"Some loads are worth millions. There's just one problem though."

"And that is?"

"Well, usually it takes five members to intercept the delivery. However, if you know a person who has useful expert skills, it can only take two," he stated as he looked ahead at the screen.

"I know a girl who's a prodigy at hacking," I said while copying notes from the screen.

"That's perfect. You get her on board by Friday and I'll send you the details. But remember, these drug cartels are not to be messed with. So you have to be careful," Stone warned as he glanced at me.

"Wait you're not coming with us?"

"Unfortunately, I have other... affairs to deal with. But don't worry, I'll be waiting for you at the safe house," he said assuringly but I still had my doubts.

"NO WAY!" Cass yells as she stalks to the other side of the room.

"Come on! I need money and you want money! All you have to do is hack us into the place and boom! We get a million dollars! What's the worst that can happen?" I plead as I pop a jellybean into my mouth.

"Um, WE COULD DIE!!" She yells as she throws a pillow at me.

"Yeah, but let's be honest. Is that really a bad thing?" I reason while I dodge the flying pillow.

"This is no time for funny business, Chanel! This is serious! I mean, come on! How id this any different than playing poker or hell, even stripping!" she exclaimed, flailing her arms around.

"You know the reason I can't strip is because I'm a flatty patty! And trust me, poker is seriously fatal if you don't have proper protection. You could be playing with serial killers, r*pists, hell, even pineapple pizza lovers!" I counter as I rub my temples.

"Well, you never ever lose! You did it all the time freshman year, just do it again!" Cass slumps on the couch.

"I can't! They don't bet as much money as the big leagues. God knows what will happen to me if I win everything! They'll shoot me before you can tell me 'I told ya so'!"

I push the blankets and snacks off the bed and cautiously make my way over to her. I sit down next to her and pull her into my embrace.

"Please! If you won't do this for me, do it for yourself. We can finally rent a loft upstate to share. I'll pay my dad's hospital bills and you can go on that Disney trip you've always wanted to go on. We'll pay off our debts and live life just like we've always wanted to," I said solemnly. Cass was deep in thought for a few moments.

She knows how badly I need this, but I get it if she's not all in. It's my problem and I hated bringing her in this mess. But if anything happens, we're in it together, through and through. I stared at Cass who looked like she was in a daze. Various emotions flashed through her eyes before she turned to me and smiled.

"TELL 'EM TO BRING ME MY MONEY!" she cheered.
