I stepped out the balcony and had the last view of my neighborhood. The area was rather tranquil. The roads shimmered in the heat of the midday sun. Tiny specks of dust seemed to dance in the shaft of afternoon sunlight. It was indeed a hot day!
I saw our neighbor, Mrs. Jefferson, looking out through her window grinning from ear to ear. I had no doubt she was happy that we were moving out of town. She never liked our family at all but I can't judge her, she had her reasons not to. My mom and I never liked her either.
"Asher!" called out my mom from downstairs.
"You have a visitor!"
"Okay, mom I'm coming!" I responded.
I walked back into my room from the balcony. I stared at my room nostalgically as if all my memories as a child came across my mind, reminding me how much I loved this house, yet we were moving to a new house in Flora.
I high-key never wanted to move from the house because I didn't want to start life afresh.
New friends, new surrounding, new everything!
I quickly took my backpack that had some snacks for the journey, my phone and some water. I had one last stare at my room then reluctantly walked out the room and closed the door.
"Asher! You are keeping your visitor waiting."
"Okay mom, give me a sec I'm coming!"
I sprinted down the stairs and looked at my mom expectantly.
"So where is my visitor, mom?"
My mom pointed me to the dining room. I walked a few steps and reached the dining room.
"Babe, I came to tell you goodbye," said my girlfriend, Lia, smiling, with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Aww! come here give me a hug," I said happily as tears of joy burst forth my eyes.
I never thought Lia would come say goodbye to me, she was always busy and I never thought she would spare some time to come and give me my farewell. I hugged her so tight like I had never before. I felt like I loved her more then than I even loved her before.
"Okay, you two lovebirds, you can stop now, we need to carry these stuff to the truck," said my mom, irritated by our 'moment'.
We then chuckled and headed back to the living room to help my mom carry the luggage into her truck. When we were done clearing everything, my mom locked the house and left the keys under the doormat for the house owner to come and pick them up.
"Okay, we are all set, let's go!" said my mom enthusiastically.
Lia and I looked at each other sadly. It was potential that we were never going to see each other again because the city I was moving to, Flora, was so far away from Townsville. My mom got into the driver's seat and waited for me to hop on the truck.
"So this is goodbye," I said sadly.
"I guess it is, but let's make sure we always keep in touch on phone," said Lia with tears of sadness bursting out of her eyes.
"I definitely will always text you and call you everyday," I said promisingly.
"But you know I can't leave without a kiss," I continued, jokingly.
I grabbed Lia's waist as she put her arms around my neck and gave her my last kiss, a kiss she would never forget.
"Seriously, you two need to get a bed," my mom said while hooting at us.
We all laughed and I hugged Lia goodbye once again. I entered into the backseat of the truck and fastened my seat belt.
My mom started up the engine and in no time, the truck was moving. I gazed through the back window of the truck and saw Lia standing there waving at me. I waved back at her happily and when I could see her no more, I stopped gazing at the window.
I took my backpack and whipped out my phone. I wanted to text my closest friends, that I was finally moving. I had met up with them the day before, we had an awesome time to celebrate our last time together, but I still felt like I needed to notify them.
I leaned back the seat and gazed through the window.
This is gonna be a long journey!
