(flashback chapter)
when Bombay had found fulton reed there was just one problem, the kid couldn't skate, but that wasn't gonna stop him from getting fulton on the team.
the district 5 hockey team quickly skated there way through the mall, almost crashing in to many people well doing so. behind them was a struggling fulton. he just couldn't seem to get it.
"come on fulton!" coach encouraged. fulton was still wobbling on his skates.
bombay looked over at all the other kids and saw vicky gliding around, she may not be the best player but boy could she skate. thats when the light bulb went off in his head.
" Szalinski!" he shouted. she whipped her head around to see bombay waving her over. she smoothly skated over.
"yes coach?"
"I have have job for you." he told her. her eyes lit up with excitement due to the fact that he was actually gonna give her something to do on the team. "your gonna show fulton how to skate."
"yay!" she clapped her hands.
fulton looked at her. she had on baby blue overalls and her blonde hair was in pigtail braids that had pink streaks peaking out. he looked back at coach with a skeptical look.
"your gonna love her fulton, I promise." coach skated away so the two could get to work.
she turned her attention to fulton. "I'm Vicky, in case you didnt know." he nodded at her. she skated in front of him and put out her hand for him to take "come one."
"listen its nice your helping me but I dont think I can do this."
"I'm not letting you give up this easily, ill work with you all night if i have too." her hands were still out for him to take. "do you trust me?" she asked. "I promise I wont let you fall. I even pinky promise you!" you held out her pinky finger. still unsure of how he felt about this girl he had just met, he shook pinkys with her. she gave him a warm smile and took both her hands in to his, she began guiding him. helping him up straight when he would start to wobble. not once did she let him fall. the more they skated together, the more fulton get more comfortable on his skates. but wasn't just his skates he got more comfortable with. vickys helpful words and enthusiasm made him warm up to her a bit. she had kept her promise. not once did she let him fall.
there time together was coming to an end and vicky had to leave.
"well..I guess ill see you at our next game! Im glad you joined..." she gave him one last smile before skating away. fulton watched as she made her way though the mall disappearing in the crowd of people.
fulton wasn't sure what he was feeling at the moment. all he knew was that he couldn't wait for that next game.
