The car ride to Chick-Fil-A is completely silent. Lani keeps her head against the window and watches each car drive by. Her headache wasn't going away anytime soon meaning her attitude wasn't either.
She refused to take the pills because she hates the thought of having to swallow something whole. Times like this she wished her momma was here.

"Mommy I got a booboo" 4 year old Lani says running to Cora, her mother, with tears down her face.
"Awww mommas baby.. c'mere" she says picking Lani up and placing her on the kitchen counter. She wipes her daughter's tear away and gently picks her elbow up revealing the cut.
"Mommy it's hurting" she cries into her mothers shoulder. Lani was definitely a 'mommy's baby'. She would always get her way, being the youngest and the only girl in the family meant everything was about her.
"I know baby hold on for me." She says grabbing some tissue and wetting it before lightly wiping the blood away.
"Look baby.. imma do a magic trick and the tears are gonna turn to giggles alright..you ready?" she says placing a bandaid on her elbow and throwing the tissue in the trash. Lani nods already knowing the routine.
Lani braces herself as her mother counts down from 10 and already starts laughing. She watches her moms hands get closer to her as she closes her eyes.
Cora tickles her making Lani laugh uncontrollably. She loved watching her baby girl laugh it was one of the only things that made her day.

Lani snaps out of her thoughts and looks up. She realises KJ was at the Chick- Fil- A drive through. The smell of the food fills the car making Kehlani's stomach ache. She knew she was hungry but didn't wanna admit it after what had just happened.

"Hey welcome to Chick-fil- A, what can I get you" I hear. I choose to keep my head on the window and close my eyes.
"Get me two chicken sandwich meals with fries" KJ says.
I'm hungry.. but it's okay
"Drinks?"
"A lemonade and a small frosted lemonade"
You don't need to eat anything.. you gone live... even if you haven't eaten yet.
"Anything else?"
I feel KJ glare at me so I look over.
"What you want?" He asks
"Nothin.." I respond looking away again. Hungry was an understatement but I don't want him to get me anything...
"Um get me another chicken sandwich meal with fries and another sprite" KJ says making me smack my lips.
Okay but I said-
"Alright, that'll be $23.17, you can pay at the window". The worker says before KJ drives off.
As soon as he gets to the window, I take my purse out to grab a $10 bill to pay for my meal. He looks over at me and sucks his teeth whilst taking his card out.
Okay but-
I watch as he taps his card on the reader before looking away and hesitating to put the money back.
