~ flashback ~

the couple walked along the lake, shoulders and hands touching, but never connecting.

namjoon smiles to himself as he hears the squeals and giggles of little children playing around happily in the park, shouting at their dads to push the swing or asking their mothers for ice cream.

when she sees the appearance of his small dimples, rayeon's heart melts at the sight, and she calls out his name.

"namjoon," her voice makes him turn his head immediately, and he nods at her, the action making her smile a little, "do you wanna buy ice cream?"

namjoon's eyes widen, and for a second the twenty-three year old man disappeared, a small child taking his place as he beamed at her; a clear yes.

they walk to the ice cream van and when it's their turn to order, the lady at the front compliments rayeon's eyes, and her cheeks flush a light crimson.

namjoon falls deeper and harder; he wanted to do nothing but pull her closer to him and hold her tight, promising to never let go.

"thank you." rayeon mumbled, so quiet that the lady chuckled in response and glanced between the couple, smiling fondly.

the sun's about to set, and the two have spent the past hour looking for a quiet and empty space to spend the rest of their time at the park.

rayeon excitedly points to a particular spot, placed perfectly in the middle of the woods and lake, as if it were made for a blooming couple.

the two sit down in the bench, and watch intently as the sun starts to bid them farewell, starting by painting the sky in vibrant shades of orange and pink. the sky was clear - only spots of clouds could be seen, but those alone were enough for the sun, for they now had streaks of pink flowing through them.

rayeon looks over to namjoon, taking in his beauty as he stares at the sky in awe, eyes roaming around aimlessly, taking in everything. the longer she looked at him, the harder she fell and the safer she felt.

he made her feel safe.

she thought she could finally let go.

rayeon moves her hands towards namjoon's, hesitation taking over instantly, and she begins to move it away, when she feels a hand intertwine with hers, gripping it tightly yet gently. his fingers tap the back of her palm lightly and then proceed to draw little circles.

rayeon realises she can't stop looking at him. she feels as though he could be the only thing she could see and that still wouldn't be enough. namjoon turns his head to the side, and their eyes lock, holding each other in a strong grip.

her eyes fixate on his, wanting to drown in the swirls of smooth chocolate brown. he felt the same, wanting nothing more but to stare at the ocean that was her eyes, splashes of green and brown colliding with each other vigorously yet in perfect harmony.

he leans closer to her, and rayeon closes her eyes impulsively; namjoon's laugh was melodic, and as she felt a soft pair of lips peck hers, she felt complete. namjoon takes a hold of her other hand and twists their bodies so that they're now comfortably facing each other. their hands were intertwined and rested in between their legs, and this time rayeon was the first to lean in. her touch took him by surprise as his eyes widened and then closed when he kissed her back slowly.

when they pulled away, a tint of red stayed on their cheeks, and they never let go of each other's hands, scared to miss a single second of being together.
