“It’ll be fine.”

Ben let out a silent wavering sigh, the kind that only erupted when dealing with an immensely stubborn Rey. “I would rather not.” He pressed while crossing his arms over his chest, he wasn’t getting anywhere it seemed, and he hated that.

“They need your help.” She reasoned sympathetically while leaning against the counter. “Surely I can do without you for a few days while you aid their efforts.”

He stared down at her with quizzical undecided eyes. Had she not been in the state she was he would have gladly accepted the outreach from Poe, really anything to buy himself some standing in their good graces, but the timing was incredibly unhelpful at best. Her belly had rounded out nicely, such a stark contrast from the slightly convex belly she had what seemed like yesterday. Nine months seemed so far away when they first found out, yet now it seemed like time slipped away from him.

They were right, the best moments truly were fleeting. He didn’t want to miss a moment or he feared he’d miss so much.

Plus, it didn’t help that his protectiveness over her doubled, or tripled even, he had two to protect now and there were surely hoards of First Order sympathizers lurking around.

“I’m worried something may happen while I’m gone.” He said in an attempt to reason with her, but when she had her mind set to something it was hard to derail her thought process. He stepped closer to her and tucked a loose curl of hair back behind her ear. She’d win this argument, he knew.

She smiled in a response to the gesture and leaned her head into the palm of his hand, her cheek warm against the coarse skin of his hand. “Nothing has happened in eight months, now isn’t the time to worry.” Her hazel eyes comforted him to believe that statement to be true. “I promise…. Besides, Poe and Finn could really use your help.”

She emphasized the really because Poe and Finn did nothing short of beg him to clear out a First Order outpost that stowed away an abundance of supplies – originally it was him who tipped them off to it’s existence, so really why was he surprised they’d need his help.

“Okay.” He breathed with defeat, he couldn’t resist those big round glimmering eyes that stored up at him lovingly. “As long as you’ll keep me updated. Regularly. Deal?”

She grinned from ear to ear, her wide toothy smile always struck something inside of him, he could never deny that face. “Of course.”

Ben had only been gone twelve hours before Rey found herself biting at her already gnawed off finger nails – a habit she developed well into her childhood on her singed and scarred fingertips. She’d been relatively stress free since he left last night, curled up with a meal by herself before stretching her legs around the base, greeting Poe and Finn before retreating for the day.

She began to sleep well until murmurs of pain brought her in and out of consciousness, from then on her sleep was out the window and her eyelids hung low.

“What’s going on little baby?” She lulled sleepily, hauling her legs over the side of the bed then using two hands to smooth over the rounded bare skin. I’m going to miss this bump, she thought, smoothing over her belly a few times more to coax little baby awake. The pains in the night weren’t all bad – they reminded her more of her monthly than anything else but regardless, she found it worrying enough to climb out of bed in the wee hours of the morning.

The stretched skin shifted, rippling over the movements going on inside of her. “There we gooo…” A smile emerged and Rey pressed down into her skin gently with the tips of her fingers. “You’ve slept long enough, if I have to wake up so do you!”
