The day was cold and the sky was covered in a grey blanket, darker clouds scattered the grey void and the wind was starting to pick up speed. This caused people to either rush home or hurry up to work since it was a sign of a storm coming.
Kenma wasn't in a rush at all, he walked his normal pace along the sidewalk and ignored the people rushing past him. He was on his way to visit his mother who had broken her leg, Kenma wanted to see her before she had to go under operation. He knew that his mother would be paranoid about the surgery on her leg so he started to fasten his pace.
It wasn't long until the hospital came into view. As he kept walking, he could feel cold drops of water hit his face, to which Kenma let out an annoyed sigh and walked faster till he was in the building.
He stopped right at the door for a few seconds scanning the empty room- he was honestly surprised to see the hospital so empty, but he took it for granted and walked up to the counter to talk with the lady that sat behind it.
"Good evening sir, how may I help?" She said in a soft tone, "Good evening, I'm here to visit my mother, Mitsuki Kenma." He said, "She's about to go under operation, so I'm guessing it's a quick visit?" She asked, "Yes ma'am.' Kenma replied, he didn't exactly like talking to strangers so this situation made him feel somehow awkward.
"302 should be her current location, have a good day." The lady then went back to her computer and continued to type away, Kenma then left saying a quiet 'thank you' and headed down the hall which lead to the elevators.
He waited for the doors to open and once they did, to his relief, no one was in them. Kenma then proceeded to walk in and waited a few seconds as the doors started to close- which didn't close as someone came into the elevator in a rush. It was a young girl who seemed to be in middle school, she had orange curly hair and big brown eyes.
But that was all Kenma had noticed when she joined him in the elevator, it kinda reminded him of someone who was close to him back in high school. They had such a good relationship but as soon as the other graduated, he seemed to have cut ties with everyone.
As Kenma was lost in thought- the sudden sound of a 'ping' going off startled him, he then noticed that it was his floor and left the elevator. The girl followed.
Kenma felt awkward and somehow comfortable but he continued walking, he turned around to see the girl but he saw enter a patients room- room 307 if he was correct. But he couldn't care less and soon forget about it, he scanned the metal plates on the doors and finally came across 302.
He opened the door and to his expectation, his mother was on a bed and seemed extremely nervous. "Hey mum." Kenma said quietly as he walked into the room, closing the door behind him, "Kozume, hello." She replied with a nervous smile.
"What's wrong? You're shaking a lot." Kenma said as he held his mother's hands, "Oh, I'm just nervous, sweetie." Mitsuki said as she griped onto Kenma's hands, "So how's life been treating you?" Mitsuki asked with a soft chuckle, "It's been okay." Kenma replied, "That's good." She said as she breathed in and out slowly.
"Mum, your going to be fine, it's just your leg." Kenma said, he wasn't the best person to deal with situations like these but he tried his best, "I know, it's just after all this time, I've always been careful and never needed to come into a hospital unless it was for someone else's injuries, and now look at me- I've got a broken leg!" She said with a funny tone.
Kenma let out a chuckle as he continued to listen to his mother's rants, a sudden knock on the door was heard and a doctor walking in, "Hello Kenma-san, it's time for the operation." The doctor said casually, "O-okay." Mitsuki replied with obvious fear in her voice.
"Mum, you'll be fine, I'll be here once you get out of surgery, okay?" Kenma said, "Mhm, thank you sweetheart but you can stay here the whole time." But she was cut off with her son talking back, "Your just getting something done with your leg and getting a cast, I'm sure it won't take that long." Kenma said as he got up off the bed.
"I'll see you soon, love you!" Kenma said as he left the room, he could hear his mother shouting an 'I love you too' response and he smiled to himself.
Kenma planned on getting some snacks to pass the time, he didn't exactly want to eat hospital food so he decided to head down to one of the sweet shops near by. But as he continued down the hall now being on his phone, he managed to bump into someone.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" The stranger said, Kenma looked up to see who the stranger was but was meet with an oddly familiar face, the two looked at each other in shock with wide eyes and confused expressions.
