Betty Pov:
"Come on!", I yelled, our shoes getting soaked as we ran through an empty, rainy street. It was October 13, and Jughead, Archie, Veronica, and I convinced our families to go on a trip to France together! We had decided to take a walk around town while our parents got all of the trip arrangements sorted at our campsite, when all of of a sudden, it started pouring. The thunder was getting louder, lightning flashing across the night sky.

I squinted, thinking I saw something in the distance. A building? Veronica gave me a terrified look, making me think she had seen it too. "Guys! I think I see a building!", I cried. Without hesitation, the others followed me as I ran towards this old, depressing, worn-down, neglected building. We all pushed inside, Archie slamming the door afterwards. "Phew. I'm glad we're out of THAT! My dress might already be ruined!", Veronica said as she leaned over, trying to catch her breath. "Running in heels is NOT fun.". I glimpsed at Jughead, watching him roll his eyes at her comment.

We all paused for a moment. After a while, Archie broke the silence. "Where are we?". Silence followed. I thought about his question. I hadn't the slightest clue where we were. This place looked deserted, but at least we were out of the rain. Jughead jumped up from his place on the floor. "Guys, our parents don't know where we are either!". I whipped out my phone. "Don't worry. Let me call my mom.", I responded calmly. We all listened quietly, groaning when it went straight to voicemail. "No signal. Why am I surprised. Oh well, we can just camp out here until the storm calms down! It'll be fine.". I exclaimed, trying to lighten the mood. Who knew how long we would be here for?

It didn't take long until we were all up again, scouting out the place. "Hey, guys! I found another room!", Archie yelled one surprise. We all followed the sound of his voice, which led us to a dark, damp, and very small room. I grabbed a flashlight from my backpack as we all crept in. Click. The flashlight let off a brilliant glow, and we continued out way into the room. Our eyes widened simultaneously as we found hundreds of... cribs?

"I wonder why there are so many cribs in here.", Veronica remarked curiously. "Maybe this place isn't deserted. Maybe it's an orphanage.". "Archie, if this was an orphanage, there would be adults here.", Jughead pointed out. I could sense worry in his voice. "Maybe it's different here?", I suggested. Jughead then hurried over to one of the cribs, a wave of fear and sadness going over his face. Veronica followed after Jug. "It's so... cute?". Veronica looked concerned. I had to see whatever they were seeing.

I made my way over. Inside the crib they were hovering over was a little baby girl, no more than a year old. But she looked terrible. Her face was a pale, blight white, with dark circles around her eyes. But she looked oddly calm. It's what I realized next that made chills go down my spine. ALL of the children looked the same; cold, pale, sick. "Maybe we should get out of here.", I suggested, worry flooding through me. Too late.

Archie was standing over another crib, looking straight in the eyes of one of the children as it stood up. We all froze mid-step. The boy's eyes were COMPLETELY black. "Come PLAY with me!", the child whispered with a scratchy, shaky voice, loud enough for all of us to hear. "Um, I don't want to play with you right now.", Archie said impulsively and out of fear. He came to regret that decision moments later as the child got evidently angry. "Oh well, your loss...", the boy said with a soft, wicked chuckle. Suddenly, all of the kids started standing in their cribs, starting crawling out of them. Blood trickles out of their deep, black eyes, and it finally occurred to me what was wrong with them. They weren't alive anymore.

Without saying a word, we all ran out of the room as fast as our legs could carry us! We all hurried towards the front door. Jughead reached it first. "We have a problem! The door's locked!", Jughead shouted. Veronica screamed. "We're going to be devoured by devil children, Jughead! OPEN THE DAMN DOOR!". I heard giggles coming through the other room, and I looked back to find them crawling towards us in bulk. "Guys, WE GOTTA GO!", Archie screamed. "IF YOU WANT TO GO, HELP US FIND A WAY OUT, SMART ONE!", Jughead lashed out, clearly frustrated with his stupidity and the situation we were currently in.

I was scoping out our surroundings, looking for anything that could possibly happen. Somehow, just then, a miracle happened. "Guys! There's a hole in the wall over there! It's blocked my a rock! Maybe we can crawl through it!", I exclaimed, relieved by my discovery. We all ran over to the spot, and managed to push the rock out and climb out. I shoved the rock back in, and we all ran back in the direction of our campsite as fast as humanly possible.

We all sat around the campfire, eating our s'mores. "So, guys, what did you think of my scary story?", I asked with a low tone in my voice. "That was definitely creepy, B. You even had to ruin my dress!". We all laughed at Veronica's comment. "On a real note, Veronica's right. That was chilling Betty.", Jughead remarked, patting my back and kissing my cheek. Archie nodded in agreement.

Our parents asked us to go pick up some things from the grocery store for us to have at camp, so we all walked together as we made light conversation. Out of nowhere, Veronica stated "Guys. It's Friday. Friday the 13th. You know that on some Friday the 13th, one of the Kings of France arrested and murdered hundreds of men, right?". I actually did know that, but all of us exclaimed our surprise and interest. All of a sudden, it started pouring. I realized that we were lost. I squinted, thinking I saw something in the distance. It looked like an old, worn-down building, and Veronica looked me dead in the eyes with a look of terror on her face.

I hope you guys like this! I actually wrote this story when I was 11, rewrote it when I was 14, and rewrote it again now 😂 I made a few modifications, of course. Feedback is always appreciated! 💜
