Jughead Pov:
Veronica and Cheryl's heels clicked loudly, echoing through the bustling school hallways as kids rushed off to their various classes. The two of them giggled and pointed at a number of different girls and guys alike, Archie and I following behind them as Archie did the same.

He nudged my shoulder roughly, shaking me with vigor as he chuckled. "Come on, Jug. What's with the down face? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Your sister give you a boner again?".

Veronica and Cheryl spun on the balls of their heels,
mouths agape. "WHAT!?", they screeched in unison, Veronica taking another breath before teasingly snarking at me. "Jones, your sister?? That's fucking disgusting!".

"Ugh. Come on, guys.", I groaned as I rolled my eyes. "Seriously, fuck off for once.".

"Jeez, relax, will you? You're killing the mood, Hobo.", Cheryl mocked.

I really despised them. They got on my nerves CONSTANTLY. They were always finding someone to pick on, need or jock or whatnot. It didn't matter; they always found something to dislike about people.
They bullied everyone continuously, and I was forced to stick with per a threat I had made by those who I called my "friends": They threatened to spread a rumor around the entire school that I, the leader of a gang, tried to kill myself. They had, in facts, caught me attempting one day, but they promised that as long as I joined their friend group to raise both their popularity and mine, they would keep their mouths shut. I dwelled on the idea of me receiving pity glances from my peers, and couldn't stand the thought, so I caved into becoming part of their cynical clique of devilish teenagers.

I was snapped out of my daze as Cheryl's shrill of a laugh instilled anxiety in everyone within a 25 foot radius, sauntering over authoritatively towards the shy blonde girl attempting to load a stack of workbooks into her dainty arms. She huffed as one fell with a thud, shuddering in embarrassment before leaning down to pick it up. Unfortunately for her, we were at the scene as well.

Veronica's boot stomped in front of the girls hand by a centimeter, her other settling on the book. "O-Oh, h-hi guys. U-m, can I have my b-book, please?", she stuttered, now trembling in fear.

"You wish, loser. You can fetch it on your own.", she snarled back.

Betty reached out to grab it, and just as she did, Veronica kicked it behind her, skidding it across the dusty hallway tile.

"What are you waiting for?", Cheryl asked innocently. "Go grab it, dumbo. Crawl on the floor like the pig you are.", Archie added with a snarky tone.

She did as they asked while they remained a few steps ahead, repeatedly kicking it down the hall as surrounding students laughed and snickered at her expense.

Betty stood up suddenly, her head hanging onto her chest in defeat as she began to sob, running from the scene as quickly as her legs could carry her.

"Why aren't you laughing, Jones? Wasn't enough of a show for you?", Archie asked, placing his hand on his shoulder as he smirked, recalling the previous events.

"You guys are all such assholes, you know that? You know what? Maybe I'm tired of bullying people, especially people like Betty Cooper who don't even deserve it!".

I ran after the girl while the others shouted at me. "You'll regret this, Jughead!". "SIMP!". "He's a loser just like her. He probably likes her.".

I heard sniffles coming from behind the closed door of the Blue and Gold, the school newspaper. I was once part of that newspaper with Betty before I became the popular bully, constrained to belittle and ridicule a girl whom I once shared a mutual respect for.

I freaked the door open, Betty swiping away her tears as soon as she realized who entered. "Look, Jughead, haven't you and your friends done enough damage for one day? Go fucking pick on someone else. It's all you do all day anyways, so don't come chasing after me just to push me one step closer to snapping.", she choked as she cried, her face burning red.

"Betty, listen-".

"No!", she screamed. "I don't have to listen to you or any of those monsters. You're just going to take my gullibility to your advantage so that you can-".

I threw my arms around her, pressing her head into my shoulder. She tried to pull away, persistently pounding on my chest as her muffled shouts begged to let her go. I refused, rubbing her back soothingly in hopes of calming her down. She had every right to be furious, but I hated seeing her in pain. She was the most pure, heartless being on the planet, and she deserved better than she'd gotten.

Her breathing eventually steadied, her arms hesitantly and reluctantly snaking around my neck. I pulled her closer, rocking her back and forth as I inhaled sharply, nervous of her reaction to what I was about to say.

"Betty, I didn't want to be friends with them. I-".

"Nothing was forcing you, you liar. Don't lie. What the fuck do you want?".

"Betty, I'm serious. I-I tried to kill myself one day, and they saw me... They promised they wouldn't tell anyone, as long as I joined them and their awful shenanigans. I know it's s-stupid, b-but I couldn't stand the thought of people thinking of me that way, so I resulted to h-hurting you. I'm so sorry, Betty.".

Her head lifted slowly from my chest, her lip trembling. "Y-You tried... oh, God, I-I'm so sorry, But Jug-".

"I know it doesn't excuse my actions. Believe me, I understand that. I just want you to know that I'm done with them. I miss your company, Betty, and I hated hurting you. It was the last thing I wanted to do. Now I realize that I can live with those rumors, but I can't live with harming you anymore. I hope you can accept my apology.", I whispered, turning around to leave.

She snatched my hand that lagged behind, spinning me back to face her. Our mouths were now only a half an inch apart, our noses practically linking at the tips. Within the blink of an eye, her lips had connected with mine in a brief kiss, not lingering for long before she pulled away slowly.

"It's okay. I could tell you didn't like doing it, anyways. Maybe we can take them down t-together?", she asked.

I was rather shocked to hear those words, especially from her, but I wasn't disappointed.

"Absolutely.".
