This is a recreation of the scene in 1x13 where they go to Southside High to get Jughead back.
Betty Pov:
My cellphone buzzed and vibrated in my pocket, agitating me repeatedly to give it my undivided attention. Absentmindedly, all of my attention churning with the concern I had for Jug considering I didn't know where he was, I drew it from my pocket and glanced annoyedly at the screen. My eyes widened with relief as I released a breath I'd held for too long, chuckling as I accepted the call.
"Jug! Thank God you called! I had no idea where you were. Nobody has seen you anywhere and I was incredibly worried. Speaking of, where aren't you? Why aren't you here at school. Is everything-"
"I'm at Southside High, Betts."
The nonchalance in his tone took me aback, my thoughts now amid confusion as I absorbed the short amount of information I'd just received.
"I'm sorry... Southside High!? Jughead, w-why? What on earth are you talking about? Why would you even go there when all of us are here waiting for you? Your friends are here waiting for you! I-I'm here waiting for you, and you need us right now.".
"No, Betty. What I need is to be with the people I truly belong with. My place isn't with the posh folk with money and talent to back them up. I belong with the... the people who are more like me. This is where I truly belong. It's okay, Betty. Don't worry about me. I'll be okay.".
My sneakers clonked and echoed audibly through the halls as I stomped in frustration, conflicted with his response and my beliefs. Why would he believe that he doesn't belong here? Why is he pushing us away?
"Jughead, please-". The phone's beep screamed at me, taunting me, repeating to me that I'd lost her again. You're losing him, Betty. You did it again. Good job!
"Betty? What's going on? Have you found Jughead?", Veronica asked as I stumbled into the student lounge instinctively, out of breathe as panic rose within me. My eyes shot between her and Archie, who both stared curiously.
"I wouldn't say that I found him... He called me. He's at Southside High!", I exclaimed in disbelief, struggling to wrap my mind around the situation and reaching for any possible solutions that might present themselves. The doubt and the ache that appeared instead drove me wild, and not in a positive way. Once again, here came another situation that might be out of my control, no way for me to mend it.
"Betty, hey...", Archie spoke up, his voice calm despite the panic in his eyes that showed along with expectance. "Jughead's dad warned me that he might pull a stunt like this, trying to push us away. He knew he might try to distance himself for what Jug surely thinks is for all of our own goods.".
"We have to go get him!", I shouted, startled by the volume and solidity of my statement, the other two seemingly having the same reaction. They bounced up from their chairs, the three of us sprinting out of the school within mere seconds.

We ran into the unfamiliar school building, the exterior drab and worn down. Trash littered the walkway to the door, but I payed little attention to it, only focused on the task ahead of me. I flew the doors open, rushing to the one place I was sure he would be. "Cafeteria.", I muttered under my breathe, hearing murmurs of agreement and comprehension from behind me.
It wasn't difficult to find it, the volume of the chatter and gossip from the cafeteria being atrociously loud. I scanned the room, desperately trying to locate the white fur on the collar of his denim jacket and his gray beanie that I assumed he would've kept atop his head. I sighed exasperatedly when I was successful, hurrying over behind him.
I cleared my throat distinctively as the kids at the table pounded and roared with obnoxious laughter, Jughead chiming in much to my dismay before he whirled around at the noise I made. His grin dropped, his gaze and furrowed eyebrows clearly disappointed, but perhaps even comforted at my, or our, presence. It was hard to tell, but whatever he felt towards the escalation of the situation, he didn't seem pleased.
"Betty? Wait, what are you guys doing here?".
I didn't allow him the luxury of another word. My hand reached out and gripped his firmly, dragging him up and out the school doors like a mother disciplining her misbehaving child. This situation was comparable.
Veronica and Archie left to provide us some space as Jughead leaned up against someone's car, dismay sprawled across his face with his arms folded across his chest.
"Betty... Listen. I wanted to tell you, but I didn't tell you ahead of time because I knew you would try to stop me.", he whispered, gaze pointed down to avoid the disappointment that gleamed in mind.
Disappointment wasn't the only emotion that shined. "Damn straight, and I'm still gonna try!", I retaliated, lips pressed together to prevent them from trembling along with my limbs in the frosty air.
"Look, I'm wanted here. Social services wants me here. Mayor McCoy wants me here. I may blend in better here, and it'll keep you safe!".
"Stop.", I said shaking my head. "I'm not letting Riverdale's civil war split us apart, Jug. Does that seem right? Does that seem reasonable or fair to you?", I questioned further.
His answer came without hesitation this time, his expression softening as he his face flushed pink from the cold and what I also hoped to be my doing. "No it doesn't. Speaking of keeping you safe, you look like you're cold. I-I'm also cold. Come here.". He held out his arms, mine sliding underneath his jacket and embracing him affectionately.
His head shifted up so that his mouth was placed directly next to my ear, his breathing very much audible, his tongue clicking as he whispered, "I'll come back with you. Will that make you happy?".
I responded with a giggle.
"Yes, very much. Don't push us away. I'll feel much better if you're with us.".I wrote this at 3 a.m. one night, so I'm sorry if this is bad 😂. Feedback is appreciated! Also, please lmk if you like the formatting 💜
