. . .
"You look nervous." Aizawa says looking at the girl trembling when she sees the great gates of U.A. Yes, she was nervous, because she didn't know how her classmates would react. Aizawa told them about her powers, what if they were afraid of her now? What if she ended up without friends again? What if-
"You have no reason to worry, Mizuki." he sighs, drawing the young girl's attention. "You know, after I talked about your quirk, your classmates were even more concerned about you. Every day they asked about you and when they could see you again."
"R-Really?" she asks quietly.
"Yes, so much so that it was already getting annoying. Especially that spiky-redhead shark teeth boy, he wouldn't get off my back."
"Pff- you mean Kirishima?" she smiles slightly.
"Must be." he replies in a tired tone. "I have to pick up some things before class, you can go ahead."
"O-Okay..." she replies watching her teacher go by. 'Okay, Mizuki, you don't have to be nervous, maybe they'll even be happy to see you.' she sighs irritated. 'Who I'm kidding, things are probably not going to be the same now...'
"Hey! I know that red hair!" Mizuki jumps when she hears a super excited voice. "Masuda! You're here!" Uraraka runs towards the girl and hugs her as tightly as possible.
"Uraraka!" she laughs. "It's so good to see you!"
"Yeah! Come on! Everyone will be so happy to see you!" she pulls the girl's arm but she doesn't move, just looks at the floor with a worried look. "What's wrong?"
"Do you really think they'll be happy to see me?"
"But of course!" Uraraka responds smiling. "Everyone was so worried about you, we almost thought we wouldn't see you again..."
"O-Oh... I'm sorry if I worried you." Mizuki looks into the girl's brown eyes as she smiles again.
"It's not your fault! You don't have to apologize."
Then the two girls go to their classroom, jumping and laughing. Mizuki considered Uraraka a great friend, she always felt lighter (haha jokes, I'm so funny .- .) around her and forgot her worries. And the brunette girl also liked the red-haired girl's company, she was fun, even though she was a little shy. But Uraraka admired her, admired her strength, her intelligence and courage, and her desire to help and protect others, even if she loses her life. She didn't saw Mizuki fighting Nomu, but she heard everything, all the sacrifice the girl made for her teacher. She could have died, and she knew it, but she still had the courage to defend Aizawa. Uraraka wondered where the girl got such courage and strength from, but she was afraid to ask. On the first day, she had seen the burn near the girl's shoulder and she asked what had happened, but she deeply regretted it, because she made Mizuki uncomfortable.
And now Uraraka knew about her quirk too, she didn't quite understand it, though. What she knew was that she could turn into people's fears, monsters to be exact, but there was a lot more to it than that. Mizuki could kind of access the darkest part of people's brains and memories, see their fears and nightmares, and feel what they felt about it. She was hurt like them, and sometimes, she was scared like them.
In reality, Mizuki was never brave, she was never strong... she just tried to be the way she wanted to be, to be the way people used to see her.
And become a hero?
Why would she want to become a hero if that would mean having to use her powers and have those nightmares every day and suffer from them? Wouldn't it be better to be someone normal? At least she wouldn't need to use her powers, right?
