Sounds of night filled the summer air coming through the slightly open window of a bedroom located near the front of a one story home. Sounds that consisted of crickets and cicadas as well as a few dog barks from afar. Hikaru stood beside the window, his head on his raised right arm as he leaned against the wall. His dark eyes took in the view in front of him; a neighborhood of suburban houses located in Charlotte.

Each house was unique, like a different person was responsible for each design. Trees covered majority of them. It was so cluttered, reminding him of the houses back home in Kyoto. Despite that, he shook his head at how different life was here. It was even more different than Seattle. Nothing seemed the same at all. But he had been staying here since late May so for now he had to learn to get used to a new location.

Hikaru turned to look over his shoulder, taking in the sleeping form in the bed for a moment before sighing and looking straight ahead again. Like his new location, his life had taken such a quick turn. He knew that he was happy and rightfully so; finding the love of his life once more. Aija was everything he wanted in a woman and everything he wanted in a wife and she proved she felt the same about him being her soulmate when she accepted his proposal for marriage.

He also had a wonderful stroke of luck when he acquired the Mizuno Medical Clinics as his own and not his father, Ryutaro. His grandfather, Ryunnosuke's last gift more than Hikaru could ask for. Now he could live a life without worrying about his father's reaction every minute of every day.

So yes, he should be happy right now. The question was: why wasn't he?

A stirring behind him let him know that his fiancee was rousing and he heard Aija's soft caring voice, "Baby? What are you doing awake?" Her words were edged with sleep as she reached back for her phone to see the time. She gave a soft frown of confusion seeing her IPhone's screen. "It's so early. Come here."

Hikaru turned around to look in her eyes, taking in her soft beauty. Her hair usually down during the day was in a low ponytail and her brown body called to him despite wearing a simple silk white night gown with thin lace straps. Her mouth curved with tenderness and that was what propelled him forward to her queen sized bed. Aija had stated when he came to stay that she felt like a teenager all over again being in this bedroom. He knew she missed her more classy ladylike style of living and it was his fault she was now where she was. Things were different.

Aija watched as Hikaru returned to his side of the bed, sitting down next to her. She took in his tempting attractive male physique. His eyes were tired but his jaw was tight, signifying that he was stressed.

"What is it, my love?" She asked, putting a hand to said jaw, caressing gentle like. Hikaru looked down at her.

"I still feel like I can't apologize enough to you, Aija. I never should have left you. I should have brought you with me to Japan." His head bowed low from he regret he still felt at that moment.

Aija stared at her fiancé and couldn't help her soft smile. It had been a couple of weeks since the proposal and still she got an apology every couple of days. It was time to move on, at least in her opinion. She put a finger under Hikaru's chin and lifted his face up to meet hers.

"Hikaru, listen to me. I know how badly you feel about what happened between us, but it's in the past now. Our days from that part on have been different and will be different in our future. You now know you don't need your father for anything. He isn't your captor or your owner. He's your family. Nothing more."

"I know but..." Hikaru started, but Aija wouldn't let him continue. "Don't let regret change you into something you're not. You're going to be my husband and I wouldn't ask for anybody different, you understand?"
