About a week had gone by now, Tsukishima was sure you had been familiarizing yourself with the small playlist he had for you. If humming certain songs didn't give it away, it had to have been the addition of your new earbuds constantly in your ears.

Sometimes, he could even hear the words to songs playing in your ears because you had it set so loud.

It was, nice? He had mixed emotions about it...

Normally he'd be ecstatic you were talking his ear off, but on the other hand, he kind of missed it. He had subconsciously gotten so used to you as his background noise, that it didn't quite feel right with you being so quiet all of a sudden. But, on the other other hand, you were listening to his music which made up for it in an... odd.. way.

All week, Tsukishima has had to deal with the eerie silence surrounding him and your brother. It wasn't that he hated it, he just slightly misses having you mindlessly ramble to him, not that he'd ever admit.

Friday was different though, you just suddenly switched back to your usual self. When Tadashi questioned you on it, you replied with "I know all the words, I don't need the headphones anymore." and walked off.

Had you really listened to the songs over and over again to the point of memorization?

The thought had been lingering in Tsukishima's head for the entire walk to the Yamaguchi house. Friday walks were always the shortest for him, since he never had to go all the way to his house. Fridays were always spent with Tadashi at his house, it was just a routine.

After hours of just hanging out with Tadashi and the occasional appearance from you, it was around midnight, and the house was quiet.

Too quiet for Tsukishima's liking. It left him no choice but to think.
He always did this. Why did he do this?

Outside of blocking and being a sarcastic icon, Tsukishima Kei was a top notch overthinker.

and I just wanna sleep but
that's all too much

Anything and everything was racing through his mind, keeping him awake. This is exactly why he hated the quiet, why he always was listening to music. His phone was upstairs charging, if he could just make it from his spot on the couch to Tadashi's room without waking anyone up, he should be able to grab his phone to listen to music until he could sleep, easy enough right?

With a swing of his arm, Tsukishima lifted his blanket off of him, and began to make his way to the stairs, stepping as lightly as possible. Just as he was stepping on the first stair though, he made out your shadowy figure standing at the top of his stairs, holding out his phone and your earbuds.

"Sorry, I couldn't find your headphones.I hope these will do for the night." You walked down the steps a bit to reach the boy, extending your arm you handed him the items.

Slowly, Tsukishima took them from you, placing them in the pocket of his gym shorts. "How did you-"

"You don't like the quiet right? I remembered you left your phone upstairs after the movie, and figured you'd want it for music." You explained, letting out a yawn after you'd finished.

"Yea... thanks for that." Tsukishima spoke quietly, still a bit confused on how you knew that little detail about him.

"Course! We may not be besties, and I know you don't like me all that much, but I still care about you ya know?" You answered, turning to go back up the stairs.

"Wait!" Tsukishima called out to you, not even realizing he did until you turned around, looking at him with a confused gaze. "Would you maybe... stay up with me for a little bit?" The blonde fixed his eyes on the stairs, a bit scared of your reply.

tell me won't you
stay awake, stay awake for me

"Sure." You sat yourself down on one of the stairs in between you two, inviting Tsukishima to join you by patting the place beside you on the carpeted surface.

Once Tsukishima had sat himself down, your head found residence on his arm, causing a certain warmth to spread throughout his body.

After a couple minutes of comfortable silence, just the two of you enjoying the other's company, Tsukishima spoke up.
"I don't hate you, you know?" His voice was quiet, clearly laced with guilt. His heart was beating far faster than normal, and time couldn't go by faster while he waited for a reply.

my influx of emotions got me feeling in slow motion

"I know, just waiting for you to tell me yourself." You laughed a bit at yourself. "I want you to tell me more about yourself." Tsukishima furrowed his eyebrows, but before he could question you, you already spoke up again. "It's just funny. I've known you for so long, and I know quite a bit about you. But at the same time, you're like a stranger."

Even though your words ultimately made no sense at all, Tsukishima understood what you meant. For example, he knew that on wednesdays you only eat half of your lunch and feed the rest to the stray cat that always seems to find you on your way home.
It was little facts like this that he couldn't help but know, seeing you practically every single day for the past several years made sure of it.

"Yea, I get that. I'm not that interesting though, there isn't much to know." He replied, his voice as monotonous as ever.

"Are you joking? You're like one of the coolest people I know, Tsukishima!" Oh boy, that wasn't good for his heart. There he was, having some romance-anime type scene, his best friend's cute twin sister complimenting him like that. It's like you were forcing him to catch feelings.

"Whatever you say Y/N. Go back to sleep." Tsukishima was trying his best to play it off, attempting to keep his calm and uninterested attitude. He stood up, pulling you with him.

"Hey! Weren't you the one who asked me to stay up with you to begin with?" You huff, your arms crossed over your chest as you pouted about the boy's indecisiveness.

"Unimportant. I'm telling you to go to sleep now, it's late." Tsukkishima tells you, lightly flicking your forehead.

"Fine then, Mr.Grumpy." You turned on your heel, ready to walk back up the stairs before falling backwards. You were bracing for the impact, figuring you slipped or something, but it never came.

However, a warm hug from one Tsukishima Kei did come, and he'd be lying if he said it wasn't a nice feeling. But, all good things must come to an end.

"Goodnight Y/N."

"Goodnight Kei."

Tsukishima let out a shaky breath, replaying the last 20 minutes in his head.
