"Lieutenant, I'm sorry to say this but your entire team was killed."
Those words hit me like a punch to the gut.
"What about the battalion? What about Major Clyde?"
"The only survivors were Whisky team and you Lieutenant." She said quietly.
Guilt washed over me.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Your on the S.S.V. Normandy lieutenant." She answered me.
"Your needed on the CIC deck. Here are some fresh clothes that you can use." She pointed to the standard military uniform placed neatly at the edge of the bed with combat boots on top of the clothes.
I realized I was wearing a hospital robe.
"Thanks doc."
She nodded and left the Medical bay.
I started to reach for the uniform when something caught my eye.
At the storage locker on the corner of the room. A jacket was hung and covered with a plastic as if someone was preserving it.
The jacket was nothing special just an ordinary black jacket but with a red stripe going from the right shoulder down to the wrist and a gleaming N7 emblem on the where the right chest would be.
I ripped off the plastic covering and wore it along with the uniform It fit perfectly.
"That was your fathers jacket." A voice said from behind me.
I turned around and saw Garrus Vakarian in front of the door.
"Garrus." I shook his hand.
"Heard what happened at Torfan. Checked to see if you are alright." He said.
"You know me Garrus. I'm always in trouble." I said with a grin.Recalling the trouble I caused with his son. Corbulos.
"The Captain wants to speak with you on the CIC deck."
"I'll see you around Shepard." He said with a salute.
He walked out of the Med bay followed by me. The Normandy is pretty old to me considering that I grew up here until I was six. After, I lived with my mother's sister. She came to visit time to time usually before going on a campaign or just plain flying around on patrol duty. I could still see her recite Tennyson to me.She is one of the most active admirals after the war. She controls a decent number of dreadnoughts, cruisers and frigates that patrol around the Sol system.
I took the elevator going one floor up. Getting out,I saw that the Normandy had a few improvements made since I was here.
"Lieutenant Shepard." A female asked me. An attractive female I'm guessing she's in control of the ship.
"Ma'am." I saluted back to her.
"At ease." She said.
I tucked my hands behind my back and put my feet apart.
"I am Captain.Jennifer Hals. And right now your needed at the war room." She had dark brown hair cut shoulder-length,black eyes and a tall slim body. Just a little over the 6 foot height.
"Yes ma'am."
She signaled me to follow her. The Normandy was upgraded alright. She came with new security changes like the small armory placed near the map of the system. And the sensors that probobly trigger sentry guns or something.
After the war,the combined races were upgraded by the reaper technology. Slowly we began setting up colonies at new systems. Newer ways on how eezo can be used, newer weapons and armor and more.
"Captain? If I may..."
"Speak lieutenant."
"Why exactly am I here?" I asked
"Lieutenant, you and several other people are the only survivors after the attack. The mercenaries retreated before the shuttles were shot down. They'll want to question you."
We walked in silence for a few seconds before reaching the transmission room.
Four figures were standing becoming more and more recognizable. The 4 humans 3 male and 1 female which is Fleet Admiral Shepard. Captain Hals took a step back and ushered me forward.
"Lieutenant, we'd like to question you about the mission." They stated
"Of course admirals." I answered
I told them everything from the start of the mission to the point where I was knocked out.
"Interesting.... we'll inform the council. Now lieutenant, there's one more thing...." An admiral that goes by the name Kent said to me.
"For your act of valor under the heat of battle and for your outstanding leadership. The admirals have rewarded you. N7 training starts tomorrow lieutenant."
"What?" It took a little bit of time for the news to synch in.
"The admirals have sent your file to the N7 training program. Welcome to the elite lieutenant."
"Thank you admirals." I said with a neutral voice but inside I was happy. Its all I've ever dreamed about. Both my parents were N7 operatives.
I saluted. Overjoyed that I could join with the best operatives that Earth has ever seen.
"Dismissed. The Normandy will bring you ground side on Earth,Rio de Janeiro. Good luck." After, the transmission cut .
"Its pretty straight forward. Dinners at 2400 and we'll bring you ground side on Earth. You should gather your things. I stashed them in storage locker 05A. As for the jacket, you can keep that."
The rest of the day I just walked around the Normandy, helping crew members with what they needed. I talked with Joker. He asked me about Torfan and so did the rest of the crew on the Normandy. It seems that the Normandy hasn't seen action since the last reaper invasion because they wouldnt want their "valuable asset" to be destroyed. Bullshit.
The whole time I kept thinking of my squad. How they depended on me to survive. And I let them down. That dream that I had stuck to my head but I was too preoccupied to notice it.
This is gonna be one depressing trip.
Authors note: Hello guys. Sorry I couldn't write it earlier but my exams just ended so I'll probably be writing and posting chapters as fast as possible. Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
(SPOILER ALERT) So the next chapter will have Shepard as an N7 operative and how the mission on Torfan will be linked to the growing problem. (SPOILER ALERT)
