"Annabeth, where are we going?"
"Somewhere secluded, where the doors lock," she gritted her teeth as the lunatic in the car in front of her stopped, Annabeth hit the brake, honking.
"How are you going to draw him out?" Percy asked, pale from the almost crash.
"Make him an offer he can't refuse."
"Like what?" Percy asked, pulling out his phone.
"He massacred my friends to get to me. He's planned most of this out. He's forgetting an important variable."
"And what's that?"
"Humans can be very predictable, but they can also be very oily."
"How's that help us? Annabeth, how come you haven't told me what the note said?"
"What the note said isn't important. We just have to be unpredictable."
"And are we going to do that?" Percy asked, turning towards her, almost tipping her coffee over, which rested in the cup holder which had had held nothing but coffee for last two days. Neither of them were sleeping, they were running on caffeine, adrenaline, and the fear of falling asleep. They had told their friends to cancel the plan, they couldn't meet in Vegas because-because....
She tried to push the thought from her mind. Annabeth picked up her cup and took a gulp, it had long gone cold but she didn't want to end up in a car crash from falling asleep when she was driving at 20 miles past speed limit, especially because she had almost died less than a minute ago.
They could use her example at high schools.
"Kids! The reason you don't drive at 89 miles an hour while sleep deprived is-"
Overhead shows picture of a nice used car with a blonde girl and black haired boy ten feet in front of them, surrounded by the glass fragments of the windshield they had been flung through*
"You're right Mr. D, only an idiot would do that!"
"What's the variable?" Percy asked, looking at the i-Pod but couldn't decide on what to listen too.
"The fact he's doing this for a reason, he's punishing me for stopping him. what if I die, he won't get the satisfaction he once had, then maybe he'll move onto bigger targets."
"Bull, he knows who your friends are, he won't stop just because his main purpose is gone, he's a demon, Annabeth!" Annabeth glared at his direction for a second, then returned her eyes to the road.
"You can't convince me of anything, this plan will work but I'm not telling you the entirety of my plan."
"So now you do trust me?"
"Of course I trust you, Percy, but I don't trust him." Annabeth tried to keep her suspicions from her mind but they creeped their way in. What if the demon possessed Percy and killed Piper, Leo, and Calypso and he just didn't remember. He had the anti-possession tattoos but a slight mistake, a tiny cut could have stopped it from working properly.
And he had been hit over the head with something, that much was obvious when her hand had felt a goose eye on the back of his head while searching for wounds.
Annabeth shrugged her shoulders in an attempt to get rid of the feeling of dread.
"Annabeth, we should stop at a motel."
"I don't want to sleep."
"Right," Percy rolled his eyes.
"I'm serious, I tried. It wasn't pleasant."
