Y/N POV

"A mission you say?" I questioned.

The static-filled voice replied, "Indeed. You heard correctly, Sapper."

"Well, what do I need to do?"

"I cannot disclose much as of the moment. However, we have sent a letter to you, regarding your mission."

Who the hell sends letters anymore? To think that Talon, a massive international organization would use such an outdated and obsolete form of communication.

I can understand why though. You can hack into someone's email, you can wiretap their phone calls, but you can't do either of those to a written letter.

I stood up, stretching my sore muscles before responding. "I see. Anything else I need to know?"

"The rest will be disclosed in the letter. Once you are finished briefing yourself on the mission, we request that you burn the letter." The voice on the other end answered.

"Alright, is that all?"

"That will be all for tonight Sapper. Should we require anything else, we will make sure to call." With those last words, the call ended.

I made my way out of my workshop, which was a spare room in my apartment, and into my kitchen.

I poured myself a glass of water before walking outside and downstairs to my P.O box.

Peering inside, I saw a white envelope. I snatched it from the small box before making my way back to the apartment.

I sat on my couch before ripping open the envelope and pulling out the letter. Unfolding the legal-sized paper in my hands, I skimmed over my mission.

Talon wasn't wrong saying the letter would disclose everything. The paper contained everything I'd needed to know about my mission, from the operation's date, to the location of our target, and even in-depth profiles of the people I would be working with.

As I kept reading, I learned what exactly my mission was.

Approximately a month from today, there will be a meeting between human ambassadors and ambassadors from Anima City. The mayor would also be there.

We were going to raid the city hall and take the ambassadors and the mayor as hostages. The operation was supposed to be carried out by a team of five.

The plan was relatively simple. At around three o'clock in the afternoon, we would cut the power and sneak past the guards. Afterwards, we'd make our way to their conference room, incapacitate them and leave, completely undetected.

I was supposed to be the support of the team. I was charged with cutting the power, managing the security cameras, and supplying utility for my team. Luckily for me, because I was the support, I wouldn't need to get my hands dirty. Instead, I would pull the strings from the back.

I wasn't saying I couldn't fight if I needed to. In fact, during my stay in Talon, I learned the basics of hand to hand combat, as well as how to shoot.

I smirked at myself with pride. I was proud of my newfound abilities. My elation wouldn't last long however. I realized just how much I truly changed over the span of two years.

I cringed at myself. To think that once, people told me I had a bright future. They told me I was a prodigy, and with my abilities I would leave my mark on the world.

They expected me to end up as the founder of a big company. They expected me to become rich and famous. They expected me to make scientific breakthroughs and be showered with awards.
