The sunlight hit my face and I moved around to avoid it. Wait, sunlight? The sun doesn't reach into my padded room. The previous day's activities filled my head and I remembered where I was but something was wrong. I opened my eyes and looked around the room. Alex was missing. I bolted upright and looked around the room frantically. There was no trace of him and I started to freak out. My fear repeated in my head as I started breathing heavier. This was all a cruel trick by my brain.
"Alex?" I called out, moving to stand up. "Alex?" I called louder and heard a doorknob turn. I looked towards my bathroom door as it opened. Alex stepped out, looking worried and I froze in my spot. He's here.
"Maya? What's wrong?" He walked over and started checking me for injuries which was pointless. I wrapped my arms around Alex's waist once again in a hug and he reacted instantly, wrapping his arms around me. "Hey, I'm right here. I didn't leave." My breathing slowed back to normal as we stood there.
"Real?" I whispered, needing to make sure.
"Real." Alex answered and I smiled. We pulled apart and I wasn't panicking anymore. "I was just changing." I nodded absentmindedly and looked down at his clothes. Sure enough they were new. He wore a gray sleeveless hoodie and sweats. Since the hoodie was sleeveless it showed his muscles and I found myself staring at them for a moment. "Charles dropped these off, said they were for training." I nodded as he spoke and Alex motioned to something on the table. I looked and saw a similar outfit for me on it. "If you want to get changed in there I'll wait out here." Alex said as he went to get the clothes and handed them to me.
"Thank you." I took them and entered the bathroom, getting changed into the training clothes.
Once again I ignored the shoes and went back into the bedroom where Alex was waiting for me. He took my hand and gave it a squeeze to reassure me he was there. I grabbed the knife off the nightstand and tucked it into my pocket. We walked down to the kitchen hand in hand and I took out my bobby pin with my free hand. I clutched it tight for a moment, my brother's face crossing my mind as I did so. The memory faded and I tucked the item back behind my ear. I turned to Alex and he had a surprised look on his face.
"Was that your brother?" Alex asked and I tilted my head in confusion. "You held the bobby pin and for a moment I saw a boy with black hair and blue eyes. Was that your brother?"
"Yes, I used my powers to see a memory of him, but how..." I looked down at our interlocked hands and Alex did the same.
"I think we started training a little early." He laughed and I looked up at him. When Alex laughed his eyes crinkled in the slightest and his light blue eyes lit up. "This is so cool. We have to tell Charles." Alex pulled me the rest of the way to the kitchen where we found Charles, Raven and Hank. "Charles, you'll never believe what just happened." Alex exclaimed as we entered the room.
"What is it, Alex?" Charles asked and Alex motioned towards me.
"We were just walking here when we discovered something." Charles must have read our minds or something because he spoke next.
