Walking through the garbage cans, the she-wolf was looking for something to profit from on Friday evening. There were, as always, a lot of leftovers, and people were generous with her at such a time. Usually in the evening it is possible to hear the wolves howling. There used to be a lot of them here, because before people started building the city, Wolves lived here and ate what they could. The packs always lived together, and never separated. They lived hand in hand with people. Hunting, obtaining food, transporting medicine in the Winter, and finally pets that served their loyal owners. This she-wolf was picked up as a puppy, when she was left alone without breast milk. As it turned out later, she could be human, but people would not approve of her. Therefore, she had to hide in the house all her life. She had neither friends nor those who could at least explain to her: "Why is she so hated? What did she do wrong? " She was lonely, lonely all these 18 years of her existence.
The family's idyll did not last long, because those who wanted to exterminate the Wolf People came. Everything she loved so much. Everything she held dear had sunk into the fire of the flowers, the garden that smelled so good at dawn when Miss Andu was watered, and so good smelling of the machine oil of Mr. Mitch, who was busy in the garage trying to fix a long-broken pickup truck. And what lovely neighbors were. The Bruno family. Children always came to play with her, and Miss Lamash always fed the she-wolf with something tasty. Everyone always knew who she was, and no one oppressed her on the other side of the fence, and this one. All this was taken from her. Burned to the ground. The smell of smoke lingered all over the street, so cloying and so inviting. The houses were falling apart because of the fire, and the corpses that lay near the exit were burning along with everything. The smell of leather. The insides. Blood. Everything smelled so bad. Morning was coming. Autumn ended and Winter was coming. It was time to go to the forest to survive.
Another test awaited her ahead. Survive at all costs, and finally eat. Winter was coming. The rivers were freezing. Not a single animal has come out of hibernation yet. It was snowing and a storm was starting. The silhouette that he walked, staggering, caused disgust, and at the same time, pity. The wounds that were on her body did not have time to heal. A bite on the neck from the teeth of other wolves, a wounded leg from a cut, deep wounds on the shoulder, all this was on only one Wolf. She did not know where to go or what to do. She was alone. The city is already visible. City, noisy, cheerful. The house lights are burning brightly, people on the street are having fun and singing. Everyone has fun, but not her. There were leftovers in the doorways, and there were enough of them to eat to the dump, and half could be left for other days.
Most of all, she hated people. People hurt her. They took everything that was from her. But the boy that fed her with a sausage, as if he was not like that. He was kind, caring, and did not want the "Dog to die". For the first time she felt kindness. The sausage was eaten, but gratitude had to follow her. She licked the boy's hand, and left, after him with a sad and farewell look. Her path led to a large house that reminded her of the Hut. This house seemed to her somehow gloomy and frightening, but she continued to follow the boy in the cap. She really liked her.
"Perhaps we will wake up friends." - with such thoughts she followed him. Not noticing that people were looking at her, the she-wolf entered the threshold and remained waiting for the one who saved her from hunger. It was late afternoon, and no one went outside. Lifting her ear, she heard footsteps toward the door. These were cumbersome steps, but at the same time they were completely quiet, and slow, as if some old man who had just decided to walk down the stairs.
She whined. Lifting her head, the she-wolf looked at him. The one who came to the threshold of this hut was slightly surprised by the find.
-"The wolf ... I see a wolf for the first time after so many years." -The man adjusted his glasses that fell on the bridge of his nose, and sat down on his knees. For the first time after 30 years of wandering he saw a she-wolf right here, now in this city. His cloak is beige, and his elbows appear to have been ripped apart and re-sewn onto the cloak. The red sweater was what set him apart from the others this fall evening. It was as if he had never taken off his sweater at all. The boots seemed so big to her that she remembered how the same boot flew into her when the baker got angry with her for stealing a bun from the table. And the hair ... They are gray. Gray hair with a streak of gray that reminded her of the path that leads to the waterfall. Oh, how nice it would be to swim in this waterfall now, again. As if it was a bad dream, and she sleeps at home on the roof of her father Jack's house. But this is impossible now, because she is all alone. Tilting her head, she looked into the man's eyes, and when he said something, she tilted her head to one side. Now she has another acquaintance. Now she understood what the fortune-teller was telling her about who she would meet on her way, and these someone would help her in her difficult fate. Sleep. That's what she was thinking now. She bent her head on his lap and slept.
-"I never told her who I am ... I think I'll tell her about it tomorrow .... "-A strange wolf, of course, while stroking her fur, Ford decided not to rush anywhere and sitting down more comfortably fell asleep under the breath of the autumn wind, which carried foliage somewhere far from this place. Autumn came, and that's how it all started.
