❧ Lyn's Prologue:: A Girl From The Plains
"Are you awake?" a soft voice cooed to an orange-haired woman lying on a neatly made bed. Finally her flickering eyes flew open when she heard the question through slightly ringing ears. Awake...was she? Upon trying to think, her head promptly pounded. With a wince she looked over to see a young woman staring down at her with a teal gaze and her hair was much the same color. She looked so real, so it couldn't possibly be a dream.
"I found you unconscious on the plains. I am Lyn, of the Lorca tribe. You're safe now," she continued, and let an assuring smile light up on her face. It was nice to know that she was in good company, but why? During Lyn's pause, she took the moment to begin trying to recollect her memory before the girl pressed her with more questions. "Who are you? Can you remember your name?"
Who she was? Her name? Oh, that seemed to be the trigger after all. It was a bittersweet reaction towards remembering, because she wanted to know, but wasn't pleased with her recent memories. With a sigh, the orange-haired woman sat up in the bed and rose a hand to press it to her head that was splitting with ache. "Alykis... My name is Alykis," she answered quietly. Her voice had cracked, causing a need to clear her throat and exhale heavily through her nose.
"Your name is Alykis? What an odd-sounding name..." Lyn began to murmur and trailed off with a humm; averting her gaze. This caused Alykis to raise an eyebrow. She was already in enough confusion and she'd appreciate if Lyn didn't add to that right now. "Oh, but pay me no mind. It is a good name," she finished and met Alykis' quizzical eye-contact again.
"I see by your attire that you are a traveler. What brings you to the Sacae Plains? Would you share your story with me?" Lyn began to muse before asking Alykis more questions. She didn't like the interrogation very much, but at least it did get her thinking. The Sacae Plains? How could she get so far from the stronghold without waking up at all? She must have been out a long while and the thought of it made her uneasy.
Looking down at herself, Alykis saw that she was no longer in her Black Fang robes and instead she was in a commoner's dress and a hooded-cloak. The last thing she remembered was being kidnapped and she was disgusted at the thought of her captors being the ones who undressed her. The change in clothes gave off no sign that she was once a member.
At least her memories came back easily, as if waking up from a nap. She didn't have a case of amnesia, but Alykis almost wanted to use that as an excuse because she wasn't sure how much she wanted to share with Lyn.
Not knowing how much longer she could avoid telling her story, Alykis hoped something would happen so she wouldn't have to say a word. After that, a sound was heard from outside the hut. It sure caught Lyn's attention.
"Hm? What was that noise?" Lyn gasped with a jump and hurried towards the small window of the hut to peek outside. "I'll go see what's happening. Alykis, wait here for me."
Lyn must not have had luck seeing what was going on and instead was opening the door a crack to check that way before slipping outside completely for a few moments.
There was another gasp and the teal-haired girl was back inside in a heartbeat, meeting Alykis' look with wide eyes. "Oh no! Bandits! They must have come down from the Bern Mountains! They must be planning on raiding the local villages! I...I have to stop them!" she said, practically shouting. Was she not concerned about possibly alerting those bandits that they were here?
Alykis rose from the bed at last and walked over to the door as well. Her legs were a little shaky after not being used in who knows how long. She opened the door again to look outside herself before retreating with a frown. "There's a couple of them out there," she warned in an obvious tone.
