As soon as the sun started setting, Aoba Johsai or mostly known as Seijoh's volleyball team, decided to wrap their practice. It was a tiring one. They were preparing for the upcoming Spring Tournament and being known as a powerhouse school, the pressure was even more intense. Especially for the third years who were at their last year of high school and would soon retire after the said tournament.
"The last one should be the best. Rule the court," their coach would constantly remind them.
When they finished up cleaning, they went on their separate ways, leaving Oikawa and Iwaizumi behind. The spiker was silent, still confused of the way he was feeling. This wasn't the first time that he was annoyed with Oikawa but what the hell is this? It was like something was stuck in his heart when he heard how his bestfriend called his girlfriend 'babe' and how they exchanged I love yous like he wasn't there, like his presence did not even mattered.
Perhaps, I'm just- just what? Argh.
He couldn't believe what he was about to say (in his thoughts). No, it can't be. It shouldn't be. He scratched his head due to frustration. He did not even notice Oikawa's weird stares towards him.
"Uh, Iwa-chan?"
"WHAT?"
Iwa-chan was startled with the sudden raise of his voice. Actually, they were both startled. It was somewhat uncomfortable.. Iwaizumi barely raises his voice to him. He kind of felt guilty especially when he saw a glint of hurt on Oikawa's eyes.
"Look, I'm sorry-" He apologized but was cut off by his friend's chuckle.
"It's alright. Let's go home, Iwa-chan," Oikawa giggled. He pushed his bestfriend so that they could start walking.
Iwaizumi was still feeling sorry but he shrugged the thought off when he saw how the brunette turned back to his cheerful state. They were silently walking, the setter's right hand on his left shoulder when he felt him stopped. Confused, he looked back.
"What's the matter?"
"I forgot to buy a gift for Etsuko's birthday. And it's already tomorrow!" Oikawa panicked, scratching his head, a way to express his frustrations. His girlfriend was a demanding one, how could he forget that?
"Oh?" Iwaizumi couldn't hide the bitterness wrapped on his voice, "Well then I think I should go first." He turned his back against the brunette, not minding his farewell to him. He walked in the midst of the dark street, shoulders down and eyes on the ground. He never looked back, afraid that Oikawa would see his disappointed face.
--
Iwaizumi had just entered his room, after his mother's countless teasing of him being late, of him having a girlfriend or perhaps him, dating his own bestfriend, he sighed. He always thought that his mom was really weird. His mother was supportive especially when it comes to volleyball and dating that even her mother accused him of dating the setter. She had known Oikawa since he was a kid and he often caught his own son giving a different kind of stare to the brunette.
Whatever.
The black haired guy threw his team's jacket to his bed. He let his body sink beside it. He was sweaty due to their intense practice but it seemed like all his energy had left him. Not because of practice but of something else he didn't want to admit, ever. He decided to check on his phone. One message from Shitty-kawa. It was a photo, a selfie of Oikawa's attractive face with a bracelet beside it.
Oh must be for his girlfriend.
Iwaizumi was again feeling it. The heaviness on his chest as if something massive was put in there. He knew something was up. His feelings for the brunette had changed. The phone call, the I love yous, the present, Oikawa's bright smile towards his girlfriend. As if a movie, they flashed back and the spiker couldn't help but to cover his face with his calloused palms. It was all too painful.
He knew he shouldn't be feeling this way.
