"It's no big surprise you turned out this way
When they close their eyes
And prayed you would change""Twin Size Mattress" – The Front Bottoms
I walk into school Monday morning, wondering if I'll see Hope. It didn't take long for her to realize I took Eleanor's diary, so I got a lot of angry text messages over the weekend.
I frown as I see people standing around my locker, what is going on? There better not be another photo or something taped on my locker. Maybe it's another person's locker, it might have nothing to do with me.
"Juliet, are you ok?" Chelsy asks me when she sees me approaching. Well, it's clearly something to do with me. I don't answer her as I head towards my locker. "They'll clean it off" Chelsy assures me. My heart sinks as I see my locker, how could Hope do this to me?
The words liar, bitch, and orphan are sprayed on my locker. I knew Hope would get angry with me, but I didn't think she would do something like this, she doesn't seem like the type of person who would do something behind my back, more like the type of person who would call me those names to my face. Was Melissa right? Maybe Hope isn't what she seems.
I see Hope and Ashton standing in the hallway, both looking mildly interested in what's happening around my locker. Hope is leaning against a locker, talking to Ashton. I storm over to them before I can stop myself or think this decision through.
"How could you?" I ask angrily, I didn't give the diary to Melissa out of spite, I did it to keep Hope safe. I let Hope stay at my house and comforted her after a nightmare, and this is how she thanks me? Hope looks confused and glances at Ashton who shrugs his shoulders.
"I didn't have anything to do with that, so it must have been from someone else you betrayed" Hope replies, sounding strangely calm. Ashton smirks slightly, did Hope get Ashton to carry out her dirty work? Maybe Hope's turned into the new Eleanor.
"I didn't betray you! I did what I did to keep you safe, but you did this to try and hurt me! How could you make fun of me for being an orphan? Imagine if I made fun of you for losing Eleanor!" My comment causes Hope to glare at me.
"She told you didn't do it" Ashton says, defending Hope. "Can you bother someone else?" I didn't think Hope would lie to my face. It couldn't have been anyone else, no one else is mad at me. I wish Hope had the courage to admit her mistake, then I could have an ounce of respect left for her.
"I never took you for a liar" I tell Hope, who rolls her eyes and pulls out her phone. "I should have listened to the people who told me to stay away from you, the people who warned me about how cruel you were." Hope doesn't say anything to this, she doesn't even look at me.
"This is what happens when parents turn a blind eye on their children's behavior and just ignore it, praying it will go again" I snap. Hope looks up at me, her eyes filled with anger but she still doesn't say anything.
I walk away, I'm not letting Hope get off scot-free. The school doesn't do anything, they reported the photo on my locker to the police and checked the cameras, but they didn't do anything else. If they hardly did anything about a possible kidnapper breaking into school, I doubt they'll even tell Hope off about this. Hope's a Flynn, her parents donate so much money to this school so that Hope can do whatever she wants.
"Courtney, I need to talk to you" I say when I approach the head cheerleader. Courtney gets up and follows me to a quiet area in the courtyard.
Courtney pulls her white-blonde hair out of it's ponytail and shakes it around, combing through it with her fake tanned arm.
