Faith
I'm sitting at my desk rewriting a slogan for a new health bar when Liza appears at my door.
"Hey, I told you dinner reservations were at 6:30. Grace and I are waiting out front for you," she announces.
"Shit! Sorry. This ad is kicking my ass. It's hard to come up with a slogan for something that tastes like cardboard," I sigh.
"Can it wait?" That is Liza's way of asking if I'm cutting it close to a deadline.
"Yeah, I still have a day to stew it over." I closed the folder and returned it to my 'to-do' pile.
Liza smiles. "Well, let's go then. I don't want to be late for our reservation."
I stand up, grab my purse, and follow Liza out to where Grace is waiting for us.
"Well, this is a first, me waiting on you," she smirks proudly.
We all laugh as we make our way out to my car. I start the car before realizing I have no clue where we're going.
"Where to Liza?"
"The Oceanaire Seafood Room," she answers.
Grace and I look at each other and grin. "Yum!" we claim in unison.
The Oceanaire Seafood Room is a five-star restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego with an atmosphere that harkens back to a Miami superclub.
I pull out into traffic and make the short drive to the restaurant.
Once we arrive and are seated, someone at the bar catches my attention. The man turns towards us at the same time that I'm looking, and our eyes meet. Benson Easton's eyes are laser-focused on mine. When I get over my shock of seeing him here, I give him a faint smile. He smirks back at me and raises his glass. I nod and turn back towards the girls, feeling the heat rising into my cheeks. It's a shame that the gorgeous, oozing sex-appeal man can be beautiful outside and have such a shitty personality.
My sister notices my flushed face. "What the hell, Faith?"
"Don't look now, but Benson Easton is sitting over at the bar, and we might have already made eye contact," I whisper.
Of course, they both look! I roll my eyes. "Real subtle ladies!"
Out of nowhere comes a waiter with drinks on a tray we didn't order. He places the fruity cocktails on the table. "Compliments of Mr. Easton."
We each grab a drink and raise it towards Easton in gratitude. He smiles, and I can feel the heat pooling in my center. Once again, I feel the familiar burn in my cheeks. Damn, how can a simple smile have such an effect on me? I glance over at my sister and see that she's not being affected the same way I am. Damn it. She has always been the more confident one when it comes to men. I quickly turn away to hide my embarrassment by burying my crimson face into a menu.
Our waiter comes and takes our orders. After he leaves, I can see Easton approaching from the corner of my eye. Shit! I need to get myself together. He's just an asshole, not someone who should fluster me.
"Ladies, it's very nice to see you again. I just wanted to stop by and let you know that the promotional video you did for my business was spot on, exactly what I wanted. Thank you." He smiles brightly, and I know that warmth is flushing my face again like a fucking schoolgirl.
"Thank you so much for your kind words. We appreciate your feedback." My self-confident sister replies.
"No thank you is necessary, Grace, it was a job well done. You and Faith deserve a pat on the back for your excellent eye for design and Faith's eloquent wording. I should have said something this morning at your office. I'm glad we ran into each other to allow me to show you my gratitude," he explains.
